RIP. Awesome dude. He had some gigantic balls. Told Boeing to let him take 2 test pilots and test that shit out or issue a statement. I’m sure he’d have done it too: https://www.carthrottle.com/post/a5oypbl/
My hero since I was a young lad watching F1 on Wide World of Sports. A fearless competitor with technical knowledge; he ushered in a new class of racer which became the mold for how it was done. There will never be one like him because he was the mold.
...you DON'T see it? He, and Jorge, always spoke with clarity and purpose...no words minced, not filtered, not softened... If they felt that way, they said it.
RIP Niki. One of the toughest individuals on the planet who didnt give a shit what anyone else thought of him.
I liked him too, and enjoyed the movie Rush. Didn't realize he had ongoing health issues. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/formula-1/breaking-niki-lauda-dead-f1-16175419
The racing world lost ones of its finest assholes. He was one of those guys that it didn’t matter if you liked him or hated him, you still respected him. Will miss hearing his thoughts. RIP
I imagine James Hunt's first words to him when they reunited was "Good to see you again, you rat-faced bastard!"
Race in Peace! One of the craziest, most enthusiastic and involved racers. and let's not forget about this guy: Herbert Linge , who's basically responsible for Niki reaching 70 in the first place! his firefighting 911 at the scene:
