Apparently she was mowing the lawn, the discharge got clogged and she decided to stick her hand in to clear it without turning it off. They tried to reattach the fingers but it was a no go. Surprisingly she is taking it quite well and moving on with life.
Geebus! I can't imagine why anyone would take that kind of chance. My dad did lose a toe to a mower but in that case it flipped onto his foot. Hope she recovers some use of her hand/fingers.
If only we could come up with a way to alert people to not stick their fingers and toes under a mower. Maybe she can sell that picture to mower companies to put on a sticker on the desk to warn people not to do that. Eureka...that's it...the "warning label". That's what we'll call the sticker.
Warning labels should be for things that are not obvious. Otherwise, you end up with a culture in which this is normal.
People forget the danger. I had a 10 yr. veteran running a reel mower who just forgot that the reel was running. His 2 fingers STOPPED the reel and he was trapped until someone came along. We had to cut the reel apart to free him. He kept them both.
At least she didn't stick her head under there to look. I guess give her a nickname and move on. Mittens? Too soon?
Not really sure but it had to be real old because my 20yr old Toro has the safety bar that has to be engaged to keep it running.
DUDE.. thats fucking brutal... I've been holding a tree on this one sketchy downhill section where i feel like my leg will slip right under the mower... this might be a sign to retire the boat shoes from grass mowing and get some steel tow leggings.
Not gonna lie, Ive done this and clipped my finger. Luckily didn't loose it, but.....I won the idiot of the day award
