If you get charged with a crime, who do you want representing you, the $1000 an hour Harvard educated mega-attorney who’s never lost a case, or the overworked public defender who graduated bottom half of his class at state school? Why?

    Money is no object.

I think your characterization of PDs as being lesser lawyers is untrue. From what I understand, in big cities it’s actually a very competitive slot because it leads to big money jobs in private firms and gets you a shitload of experience. Overworked with zero resources, sure I’ll agree there.

Doesn’t your post prove my point? If they’re there to GAIN the kind of experience that leads to a spot in a high dollar private practice, are they not by default, not as good as the high dollar private lawyers?

Never ever go to court thinking the law is or isn't on your side. Its a competitive sport and if the other side shows up more ready to play, you lose.

If anyone thinks the US legal system is not ruled by the amount of money you have is delusional.

The money in the US is a lot better than Mexico and theirs is a sense of accomplishment about making it here, you want what you don't have. I like Mexico because of working one month I can take five months off sitting on a beach with margarita and a girl, to each their one. You sound like a cop, I live my life on a beach and boats with not much stress, wish you the best

Why don't you live in Mexico? I'm sure its much nicer to vacation there after working for a millionaire boat owner for a while then going on vacation.

I worked on a yacht there for 4 months exploring and fishing the Yucatan. I rented an air b and b for the next 1 1/2 months but have to go work in Alaska as a fly fishing guide in mid June for the Summer. Then think I will take a couple of months off in Africa. It's one place I haven't been

Of course they’re not as effective as a high dollar private lawyer. That’s doesn’t mean a PD didn’t do as well in school or is less intelligent. That’s what I took umbrage with. Private big dollar lawyers have access to armies of associates, experts, paralegals, friends at the bar association etc. and have fewer clients I think that probably makes more of a difference.

US does incarcerate a high % of populace (relatively). We also had relatively high crime rates. The decreasing crime rates over the last 30 years directly correlate to the increasing incarceration rates over the same period. Pick your poison I suppose.

Argument can go in the direction of root cause. Why is America so violent and crime ridden that we need to remove so many bad seeds from common circulation?

Again, I don't think the USA is "so violent and crime-ridden" when you compare those stats per capita, I just did a quick search these were the top two links>

(US didn't make the list, and some of those so-called "paradises" did.)

US= #94......when you factor in the number of guns we have to those countries below us, it's comical that people think the USA is a terribly violent place to live. And let's not forget the truly bad places we do have are all controlled by the same party who still think they can govern better than anyone else and now a handful of them are beginning to beat on that socialist drum. I don't think there has ever been a time in history (my lifetime) that has come this dangerously close to electing the wrong people/agendas.

FACT: the economy is booming and expanding stronger than ever, most of us got tax cuts, business growth continues, holiday bonuses which were a forgotten perk and oddly enough it returned under THIS Presidency.......but but but OMB....they keep stuttering and want....again....the STUPID folk to believe. Scary times ahead of us.

I don’t know where this “violence” topic keeps coming up. Maybe it’s a hot-button word? The majority of the people incarcerated in the US are there for non-violent crimes.

This has a lot of interesting info: https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2018.html

Hell no, It's more of a greed and getting ahead of everybody next to you, competition, keeping up with the Jones, mentality. Buying things you can't afford working your ass off with credit, and when you get that, wait, it can only get better if you buy more expensive bigger and things. I appreciate the yacht owners that pay me, most super nice, most super stressed out juggling life with money. I'm going to walk the beach soon. Sit under an umbrella, have a rum drink, and read a book. With my 500 dollar a month air bnb in la playa

Speeding and traffic violations seem minor until you see them lowering one of your family into the ground in $5,000 box.

Not the same as minor drug possession at all.

I agree, in general the US is not violent at all. You have you white kid mass shootings but in general, its safer than 60% of the world, and things work
