So this rim was forgotten at the bottom of a stack for 5 months and when I pulled it out I noticed the surface of the tire had a two slight indentations on one side. Tire is brand new as you can see and doesn't seem to have lost any air barring normal leakage. The lighting exaggerates the imperfections a little but I can't make a call. Would you run it on the track? DSC_1815 by SurgeRR, on Flickr DSC_1817 by SurgeRR, on Flickr DSC_1819 by SurgeRR, on Flickr
What model of tire is it? And I'm guessing that it's a indentation mark from storage? Hard to tell from the pictures though.
Sorry it's a Dunlop Q3+, yup from storage. The 1st and 3rd pictures are of the same mark. That's what I'm worried about, maybe give it a go for an easy session and take it from there......
IMHO I would let it warm up/stand for a few days then check it again, and I would expect it will disappear or lessen in size.
Thanks for the feedback to all. Definitely planning on trying those new Pirellis at some point this year.
I had that happen to a Pirelli and it went away with time..a couple weeks sitting... —Think some heat and a ride will put it right in shape. And I bet you are not on that edge first lap anyway - well maybe you are...
tires get indentations from traveling in the trailer tire rack all the time... once heated up you won't ever know it's there.
The only thing that would keep me from running that on the track is the D on the side. And that is just historical hatred from the squishy vague feeling Dunlops from the late 80's and early 90's.
Always had lines on the tires from storage rack, no big deal, warm it up and it will likely return to normal.
