Detergent is not a good idea as it will attack the natural oils in the leather. Gentle washing with the appropriate cleaner is key to keeping the leather fibers intact. The last thing you want is the leather to disintegrate just when you need it the most.
Just throw it in the drier on high. It will be fine. Ok, anybody that is stupid enough to do that deserves what they get. For the really stupid, I was just kidding about the drier on high., but medium would probably be just about right.
