Today being David Gilmour's 73rd birthday, my favorite internet DJ, Lonesome Larry Williams played Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, for his daily 'Grandpa's Kitchen Turntable' segment. He also shared the Wikipedia article, which states: "The Dark Side of the Moon received critical acclaim upon release, and has since been hailed by critics as one of the greatest albums of all time." It got me wondering, what's on my 'greatest albums of all time' list? And did I miss a discussion about it on the 'Beeb?
Man, that's like asking what the best food is (the answer to that is chicken parm). Way too subjective and the person's age will influence their (wrong) pick. and FY - NO! Led Zeppelin sucks harder than a thai hooker.
The first one is a classic but the best ever? Nah. and for consideration as the Rossi album (GOAT), do you include live albums? Best ofs?
I love music too much to ever be able to pick a single album...maybe per genre, but even that would be difficult.
The only way to do it it with a top XXX list. Zappa's "One Size Fits All" should be on this list. But it's hard to beat DSotM. And LZIV is one of their worst to me. Give me Houses, I, II, III, Coda or ITtOD. Presence sucks.
DSOTM isn't even Pink Floyds best album....Wish You were Here and The Wall are better. Today my vote would be The Clash, London Calling!
That's way too tough to call, need to break it down into more categories. Best debut album? GNR Appetite for destruction Best live album? Ozzy Randy Rhodes Tribute or Circle Jerks Gig Best greatest hits album? no idea. Best 80's metal album? Maybe a Metallica or Slayer album. Best 60's hippie music album? No idea, I'm no hippie. Best rap album? The first Cypress Hill or Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique. Maybe... Murder was the Case? Best movie soundtrack? Repo Man... no contest there. Best country album? hahahahahaha!
Rumors has got to be up there somewhere. I'm not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan but damn that album knocked it out of the park.
