So the pinch bolts on the 899 are recessed into the fork foot. Can these be RTVd to pass tech as they can't really be safety wired.

Can't give you a definitive yes on your question but 10 mm spacers and 10 mm longer bolts will un-recess them.

And recessed bolts can be wired, just takes some patience.

Take them out, drill the heads at a slight angle towards the top, then make a small hook with the end of your safety wire and loop it in.

Thats assuming the 899 has similar recessed pinch bolts to others I've seen. Post up a pic and we can probably offer more suggestions if they are unique.

They are the same as the 848. Order the bolts from pro bolt at 10-12mm longer and add spacers. They come pre drilled. They do cost but they are worth it

What kind of spacers do you recommend for this?

I bought nylon spacers first. The torque value is low so they will work but finally fabbed up aluminum ones which function Just fine as well.

Just drill the allen head at an angle, easy peasy.

That isn't nearly as sexy as custom drilled titanium bolts.

Or get some taller head bolts. Pro-bolt sells pre-drilled stuff or a local hardware store will have taller head allen bolts that will allow the top of the head to stick above the fork casting. Makes it easier to drill straight across the fastener.
