Hey guys quick question. How many of you store your tires outside. I usually store my slicks inside, but this year i dnt have room. They will be in the garage but i dont heat it all the time, does cold weather hurt slicks? I live in Wv so it gets below 20 often here. Im running Dunlop Ntec slicks if it matters
It's not a strange question, it's a valid one. AFAIK, it's better to keep slicks away from that kind of cold, they could end up cracking depending on their condition. I usually would at least put them on wood instead of the cold concrete.
For many years I have kept race tires on bikes, on rims, and loose in my unheated garage (in Ohio) and never had problems. Can't comment on Dunlops, but I have used Stones, Pirellis and Michelins. My only precaution is to not stack them. Also avoid sources of ozone, like large electric motors. Send me your frozen new tires for disposal...
My Pirelli slicks seem to have no issues being stored over the winter in an unheated trailer in Virginia. I do not keep the bike weight on them (stands or off the bike or I leave a set of worn out tires on the bike and swap in the spring).
