Every watched ASBK (Australian Superbike)? High quality shit. Lots of factory support from almost every manufacturer, great competition, and excellent broadcasts. Their race broadcasts are incredible. Good pre-race material, interviews, team profiles, etc. Then during the race there are cool graphics, onboard footage, and commentary. I know how the comparison is always made between the geographical size of our series vs BSB and how it isn’t fair to compare them. But ASBK kinda blows that theory out of the water because Australia is huge, has a lower population, and is very spread out. There’s thousands of miles of unsettled barren land between events/tracks...but yet the series/coverage/participation is still top notch.
The Aussie population seems to enjoy motorcycle racing more than Americans and, from what I've been told, they rally around their heroes more (Mladin, Stoner, Bayliss, Doohan, West, Corser, McCoy, etc.) And there's a lot of etc there including guys like Jeremy Burgess and Veremulen and Pitt and a lot more.
I think Roger is the last pro to have raced the gravity cavity at Road Atlanta and the kink at Road America. Danny is just about my age, and would have missed the gravity cavity and just have missed the kink. Maybe the last pro to race AMA races at Brainard too?
RH might have raced the original Rd. Atl but not as a Pro. I remember his first Pro win at Rd. atl., he had a pretty big fan club pulling for him that day too. and most of them will probably be at BMP Eslick was late to the game but was there when it was still a huge talent pool. Hope to see Rodge go out with a win at BMP, its gotta be tough for him these days but I think he still has everything needed to do it when he wants to bad enough. edit: I havnt tuned into the Australian SBK, will keep an eye out now.
A Hayden has been racing since I started following the sport. A chapter of American Road Racing history is closing, that is for sure. Probably gonna be nuts at Barber with it being his last race and all. I hope I can get a picture with him at some point. I saw him at NJMP but those guys are all business and I didn't want to mess with him, they are at work, after all!
Weird / ugly sweater / uncomfortable / gag Christmas cards are a thing. My brother and his old college roommates do it every year as a tradition - much to the chagrin of their SO’s.
