Company is sending me next week to help man our booth there. Been hearing horror stories of do's and dont's of how to navigate a when the city (and especially the convention center) is filled to the brim with hackers, lol.

    Anyone been, any tips?

Well yeah, that goes without saying. But I've heard about other things like compromised ATMs, just bring all the cash you'll need from home before even getting to Vegas and use cards at an absolute minimum (grabbed a few RFID blocking sleeves to put them in).....stay off all the Wifi everywhere etc etc.

I'm curious if it actually goes to that degree beyond the actual convention hall.

Last year all the Casino and Hotel office centers weren't allowing USB sticks to be plugged into printers for printing off presentations or other things because they were being hacked from the sticks. There is a video somewhere of someone rooting a slot machine. The folks I know that go out there annually have burner devices just for Blackhat. All their real/personal gear stays at home. Yes on the ATMs. Pay for as much in cash as you can and take it with you, there are a a lot of places that will only take cash during Blackhat. Lots of social engineering going on too, so check room bill on a regular basis etc. etc.

That seems so sketch... Why would you want to go to that?

Does law enforcement just not care during this?

They care but have no ability to fight and entire city full of hackers at once.

from what ive heard, law enforcement that do show their face are hassled mercilessly. they have games called spot the cop or spot the fed or something and all the hackers in the convention center are probing your digital devices to see if you are law enforcement.

so what do you do, send more law enforcement officers wearing digital communication devices, (phones, radios etc) into the lion's den just to be fodder for these people to mess with?

Recruiting and getting the 'list'. Not to mention listening to lectures to harden your stuff. Lot of reasons for a fed to attend.

Like Comic Con or SEMA for hackers.

Set off a low yield neutron bomb in the convention center. Substantial reduction in the AH population and no need for subsequent head busting.

If it's mostly US attendees I'd rather keep them alive in case we need them. Maybe cryogenics and thaw as needed for fighting the evil empire(s)? :D
