Considering a 4 door Jeep as a third fun car. I'd really like to get something that is as basic as they come, as the wife has a nice daily driver and I have my truck. 4wd,V6, heat and AC are the only things I definitely want it to have. Other than that, I'll take roll up windows, basic radio and cloth seats. This will be something for me to have fun modifying and leaving the top off of as much as possible since we live in Florida. What is a realistic price for something like this?
Koons in Maryland I believe are offering 5% under invoice on the new JL. Prolly can get a better deal on a JK. Should be able to get one new in the low 20's I would think.

Seeing the price of used is the only reason I am considering new. I don't want someone else's problems to save $3k.
There are 2018 JKs out now, but, if it were me, I would place my order and go for the new JL. This is a legit offer http://jeepgarage.org/f230/jeep-wrangler-jl-pricing-180034.html
I'd wait for a JL too. Other things to consider.. depending on what you're going to do with it, but if you seriously want to go offroading, the Rubicon has a much lower geared transfer case then the sport or sahara. The crawl ratio difference between the two models is pretty large.
Wanna have fun modifying? Build your own. Seriously. Way cheaper and you'll get exactly what you want. Check your local Title/Registration laws for custom builds.
I think the JL is getting a better version. If you look at used the 2011 (maybe 2012) and newer is the way to go. If you really want cool, wait til August and get the diesel
