We just had a shed built. We want to paint it the same color (dark brown) as the house and will paint it ourselves. Any recommendations for the most weather resistant coating to put on rough hewn raw wood? Many thanks in advance. Ron
Primer, then acrylic latex. If the wood is still green don't do anything to it till next summer. If you paint over raw wood that hasn't cured the moisture will push the paint off and all your time will have been wasted. If you're sure the wood is well dried then go ahead.
If it's pressure treated it has to be left to cure, or, dry out. Once it's dry it will hold paint. Generally let it sit about a year.
It's important to use acrylic latex on exteroir wood as it will flex and move with the wood as weather changes. If you put the wrong type on exterior it will peel like a mf'er. It's more important that you use the right TYPE of paint than any certain brand of paint. Personally though I always use Sherwin Williams on exterior wood and always am very happy with results and durability.
If you want weather resistance then stain is what you want. It will penetrate the wood and provide better weather protection than paint. Plus on rough hewn wood, stain will be easier to apply. You still have to let the wood dry before any type of coating
Just go to Walmart!! They have everything! You can get batteries, tires, and Paint!! Then you can swing by the lunch meat section and get you some lunch meat! And it is all the same as you can get at any of the paint dealers....for cheap! LMAO....see other battery thread for sarcasm.
