190 Rear on 600s

    Just trying to satisfy my curiosity here. Been out of the game for long enough and so many things I don't have a handle on any more.

    I feel like back in the early 2000s you saw this once in a blue moon. I bought an '07 600 recently and it came with a 190. I thought, that's weird so I started looking around and it seems commonplace now. Is that true? If so, when did that seem to take effect? It seems like OEMs are still putting 180s on from the factory but some of the tire manufacturers are recommending 190s on their websites (Michelin for example).

    Not trying to incite a holy war here, but what do you all run on the track on your 600s? I'm not going to be racing any time soon (I don't think) so for me it doesn't matter. Nothing I do on the street or even a track day is going to matter, but again, just being curious. Thanks!

    Only people running a 180 is the people running the 180/60 Pirelli

    I ran the Michelin EVO's in 180, 190, and 200 on the 848. Definitely don't recommend the 200. But the 180 and 190 did just fine. I preferred the 180.

    Well seems the demand for 180s died due to new bikes going bigger in rears for traction.
    Dunlop went back to making 180 for moto America this yr.
    And are available now.
    I run vintage on F3 and 190 can be made to work.
    165 is faster on my turd.
    Too big a tire pushes front end with to much traction.
    190 up are for 1000s and they became what was being sold most.
    So 180 is coming back.

    First number is mm across and the second number is percentage of first for height.

    I'll summarize the next 3 pages.

    OP is only thinking of 180/55's and thinks only first number is important

    I make vague post about nobody running 180's anymore, knowing what the OP is referring to yet indirectly baiting others at the same time (check)

    OP doesn't know what metric tire numbers mean

    Someone (not me) will ask for the physical measurement differences between the 180/60 Pirelli and the 200 Pirelli

    Then I'll be back to asking "How about them "180" tires huh?

    Broome will chime in with a Broome dissertation of how the modern 180 is the old school 190 which I insinuated from the get go, and that nobody is running a 180/55 anymore

    Steeltoe will mention something about zooki's being awesome

    Now it's time for me to step back and watch this unfold. :D

    Is the new Dunlop 180/60 closer in measurement to the 190 or a 180/55?

    I would have a chat with your tire vender you use at track.
    Different brands have difference outside diameters and affect turning of a bike.

    The 190/55 is what my tire guy recommended for my 600 and I have had no issues with it. Power Cup Evo. Apparently the 180 steers a bit quicker but the 190 has a bit more traction at full lean. Unless you are racing at the pointy end of the pro group odds are you will not see a bunch of difference.
