Alright, this should be the last time I ever mention hockey on the beeb. My son played his final home game as a Louisville Cardinal yesterday, and he went out in style. The Cards played Ohio University on Saturday in the semi-final and won 2-1. Yesterday they beat the University of Cincinnati 6-4 to win their 3rd Conference title in row. He was between the pipes for both games and won the Tournament MVP. This was the equivalent to the Stanley Cup for this team. His grandpa was on hand and has been to every game and damn near every practice my son has been part of for nearly 18 years. Now he can get a job!
Thanks guys! Yeah, a shower was definitely due! He gives goalie lessons to kids at $30 an hour but I'd rather see him get a job in his field (GIS) and earn some real cash. Plus he has one final pipe dream...a good friend of ours is a minor league scout and he wants my son to try out this summer in Chicago for a spot on a minor league team. Pays a whopping $500 a week and endless hours on a team bus between cities. But my son said if he doesn't at least give it one shot he'll regret it the rest of his life.
One of my coworkers played for the Irish women's national team. One of her brothers played minor league hockey, and her other two are playing for the same college. Private instruction plays an important financial role in all of their lives. They also run a dek hockey league now, and 2/4 have paid coaching gigs. Congratulations and good luck to your son.
Congrat's dad and son!!! Cool on the baseball deal, I agree with him, worth a try while he is still young.
Sacramento. Best to have a resource background, and the jobs are quite competitive. PM me is you need more info.
My kid plays eleven months out of the year. We live at the rink. I wouldn't mind you talking hockey now and then.
I screwed up, not sure why I said baseball, I know he is a hockey player? I can only guess it's because my nephew just pitched his first game in college, and I watched it on Sunday, so I had baseball on the brain?
Nephew is looking at playing hockey straight out of high school skipping at least a year of college. Not sure how it'll play out but he's evidently pretty good.
