Everything breaks. I played lacrosse in HS as well. I saved up and bought a Warrior defense shaft made out of titanium. It was high end back in the day. It got a big dent the second practice I used it.
Thats where I first heard about it. He said it was over a half kilo of weight savings (1.1 lbs). Since some teams are already at the minimum weight they use it for shifting the weight. The coverage on motogp videopass is pretty good. I can't imagine it crashes well.
If Dave(gay) mentions Lacrosse one more time in a MotoGp suspension thread, he's getting his ass banned!
That Kevlar shaft was made by Brine back around 1997-1998 and in a long pole configuration they were prone to snapping. I played defense with an aluminum/scandium alloy shaft that was lightweight and strong. Titanium was the shit back then but cost $$$
Same with hockey sticks back then. I was lucky and had access to some really good ones for free but retail, if you could even get them was in the $600 range. Now you can get better ones for 1/4 the price.
CeraCarbon has composite fork inner tubes. 43mm tube has a weight of 237gramms for 1.5Kg less unsprung weight http://www.ceracarbon.com/ They look promising/$$$
