Well, found a local dealer that'll let me take a Superduke for a spin....
I like the KTM for the more comfortable riding position and it's different. The Tuono is nothing more than a superbike with handlebars.
Hell, I think everything from an RSV 4 fits the Tuono.

Still leaning toward Tuono, but looking at the KTM a little harder. KTM dealers and customer service and parts availability sux from everything ive read and people ive talked to.

Replaced the horn in the first 800 miles- no other isses. Local dealer received the replacement horn with a weekly shipment from KTM. I have four KTM dealers within 20 miles. Owners manual has specific and clearly illustrated instructions on oil change, wheel change and suspension settings including torque settings. I ended up using Sport Rider settings for suspension- pretty good for the street. No fork preload setting unfortunately. Great bike. Super comfy and a welcome change from riding a "sprung" sportbike.

Well, went through with a '16 Tuono, the blue one, non factory. $13k OTD. I'm gonna have it shipped to me for another $450.

I can have the dealer install the Aprilia race ECU and slipon of my choice. Seems that those 2 things are a highly recommended install from the word go.
Smooths out and increases power, better sound obviously, eliminates the servo/flapper crap.

Leaning towards the Graves carbon slipon.

Nice! I'd lose the passenger pegs and mudguard ASAP.

No way man. Girl needs a place to sit...but yea, when i go solo, the pegs come off and a tail tidy will be put on....and a Flyhammer gp shifter .
That's not 'my' bike, just a pic of what im getting.

Questioin now is, do i do the Aprilia race ecu w/graves slipon at the dealer before i take the bike, or just have it shipped bone stock?

The thing with the new race ecu is, the dealer/aprilia has special codes, PADS, something else or other, and the throttle by wire has to be recalibrated, new parameters set, and a bunch of other crap i don't know anything about.

I know where some killer deals are on leftover '15's....a 600 mile demo with race mapping and Akro slipon and a 0 mile '15 for the same price.

And '16 Tuono factorys $1500 off. All these bikes are out the door pricing. Pay for shipping and your own sales tax when you register the bike.

Ain't no stinking dealers arouund me that have any in stock and if they do, they're not moving on the prices.

Get it shipped bone stock and ride it. You'll be surprised how good the stock tune/power delivery/sound is on the '16's. I was pulling up to Cycle Gear yesterday, and some dude came out to me and said he heard me from down the road, thought my bike was an old muscle car V8. It's stock. No one has gotten much out of slip on, race ecu and tune yet, even including adding a full system. Give it some time.

Thought about that too. The stock exhaust sounds great by all accounts. Im not trying to get big HP gains with the race ecu/slipon combo...but it seems the bike will run cooler (its a notoriously hot running bike), smooth out the throttle/power delivery, and save about 12 lbs in weight.

My thinking is, its still at the dealer, let them do it now and be done with it. Otherwise, i'll get the bike, eventually want those mods done, have to take the bike to a dealer over a 100 miles away, and hope to get it back within a month, etc....

Hell, my '13 H-D Night rod special still has the stock cans on it. Sounds like a 50 cc puch moped. I've had slipons for it for 3 yrs, still in the box. My point is, i would be content with stock exhaust....just looking to make the 'ride' better if possible.

Also, shouldn't i keep it bone stock for the break-in period anyway?

I hear ya, I had the same intentions. Wanted to get rid of the cat and flapper valve. After putting 1000 miles on it, I don't think it's worth it, yet. If I spend a grand or two, I have to get somewhat significant gains. Mine pulls cleanly from 3k in 4th, has no off-on throttle jitters, and I'm a picky bastard when it comes to fueling. If you got the cash for exhaust/ecu you can expect the usual better sound, weight savings and much better looks. Unfortunately that's about all for now. I'm waiting to see if Gabro comes up with something good, he did on the previous version.

I'd ask wherever you're taking it for the first service if race ecu/exhaust will matter for break-in. If you're worried about the warranty.

get the slip on and race ecu it will smooth the bike out and on top of it you will fall in love with the exhaust note.

I had a chance to sit on both the Tuono 1100 and the 1290 SD-R last week (scuderia west in SF) and was surprised at the difference. I had sat on both but never off one onto the other. I am pretty set on the SD-R and have a few feelers out for used ones. so hopefully I"ll join the naked bike crowd soon. I got a chance to talk to Rennie at Laguna Seca about the Cycle News Superduke Pikes Peak racers and he had nothing but good things to say about the bike. They made some basic changes to the suspension (still WP stuff) but overall he was very happy with how it handles and ran on the street and on the track. can't wait...
