Fine. Let's use the visible light spectrum to describe politicians and governments.



Pure red represents the far right of of the political spectrum. Something like libertarianism.

Pure violet represents the far left. Something like definitive communism.

The US falls somewhere in the yellow/orange part of the spectrum. The American right is slightly more red. The American left is slightly more yellow.

Actual factual socialism falls somewhere in the blue.

Referring to Bernie Sanders as a socialist is about as accurate as saying school buses are blue.

You either
A) have no idea what Bernie Sanders actually hopes to accomplish or
B) have no idea what socialism is.

Interesting. Real socialists are so far at the fringe that I never considered them. And I still don't.

 

Check into all the sister cities the he chose as mayor and where he went on his honeymoon (though if you read his quotes it makes a slight amount of sense)

When people use that word to describe something that is not even remotely close to the definition of that word, they look as dumb as people talking about blue school buses. True socialism involves government/state ownership of all major industry and services.

There is a BIG difference between socialism and a social democracy. If you don't know what the difference is then you shouldn't be using either term. Democrats that identify as democratic socialists should not describe themselves as socialists because it's not the same thing. Critics of a social democracy should not use the term socialism because they are not the same thing. When used to criticize or attack the left the term is used to instill fear (those blue school buses will destroy our economy!)
