It seems I have a vole running around my finished basement, and the cat is just following it around with no attempt to catch it. This is her chance to earn her keep, and nothing.
The damn thing even got up on my chair twice and tried to get under my leg both times. I've never seen a vole in the house before.

I never heard of a vole….had to google it!
Does your cat even play with it?

No, just follows it around. She's quite engaged, she just doesn't seem to know what a cat should do. It's kind of pathetic.
And the vole got up on my recliner a third time. It's actually kinda cute.

Cats can be stupid assholes sometimes. Mine tends to catch mice, moles or lizards OUTSIDE and brings them INSIDE and lets them go. I've had to trap numerous critters that she has lost interest in.

Cats are stupid. Cat owners are even stupider. Dogs is where it's at, yo.

Note that the cat, Sam-I-Am, is on TOP of the dog, Delilah...

    Cats don't have owners.

Maybe show the cat an educational video. Tom n Jerry or something.

    Stop feeding the cat.

A little appetite can change a cat's outlook on things.

I've named the vole Buddy. Seems he'll be around a while.
They have very short lifespans, so Buddy will probably die of old age before Tilly gets him.
Or maybe it's her, I can't tell the difference.

Dogs have owners. Cats have servants.

roll up a magazine and whack him. The vole, I mean. Or invest a fingerful of peanut butter in a mousetrap. or open one of those poison boxes. Cats are overrated. Self help is required.

with rabies. seriously, you let that potentially germ/disease ridden thing just run around inside... it probably goes back to it's family/friends and says hey tell everyone this house is a keeper, friendly guy and cat won't kill us.

I find it interesting that dog owners always put down cat owners, but cat owners don't reciprocate and usually like dogs too. Dog owners are the conservatives of pet owners.

Oh BTW. That's a damn mouse. Kill it already

Cat owners say nothing because they aren't put downs, they're just statements of fact.
