Shipping a race bike? Who uses who?

I have a guy interested in a bike I have for sale on the classifieds. He needs it shipped. He asked me to give him a shipping quote. I've never shipped a bike.

So, who do you guys use? Anyone have a family member or friend in the business? It's always cool to support acquaintances in some way. It would be going from 45212 to 02777.

    Thanks,
    Tuna

I've had good luck with Uship. Just make sure the ratings are good, etc like you would on ebay.

I've used forward air in the past.

Uship has worked well for me. I was able to get a bike shipped halfway across the US with GPS tracking the whole way, and it was very cheap.

We've used Forward Air a few times now with good result. They provide a crate and you you strap the bike and put a combo lock on it. There is normally enough room for some spares as well. From the time we loaded the crate to the customer received the bike cross country it was only 3-4 days (Michigan to California)

That said we had a couple of customers this year purchase bikes and handled shipping on their end. They went with Haulbikes.com and Keyboard Motorcycle Shipping (out of KY). These two will come to your location and take care of loading the bike for you.
Haulbikes took a few weeks to get the bike from Michigan to Oregon and Keyboard Motorcycle Shipping was closer to the few day mark to get the bike from Michigan to Georgia.

Forward Air worked for me. I think it was around $400 to ship an RS150 from OH to CA.

Airgroup Express gave me a quote that was half of anyone else for the same distance. $210 to ship a dirt bike from Nashville to Seattle, terminal to terminal. Residential door to door was twice the quote, and if you need a liftgate it's an extra $75. But terminal to terminal was the cheapest by far, and minimal bike prep.

plus, they sponsor an off-road motorcycle race team, so they can't be all bad!

I just used www.wolverinecycle.com to ship a race bike from Maryland to Oregon. The price was good compared to forward air. It was door to door. No complaints, I would use them again.

tell the buyer if he wasn't calling from Nigeria it would be easy for him to get his own quotes

Forward air here also. And that was on the V4 400, so I did my research. Came from WA here in 4 days without a scratch. Cost $460

Tuna, I use a guy in Ohio for all my shipping. He drags bikes from all over the US to me in Montana. Very reliable and affordable. I prefer this method over crating and dropping a bike off with someone I don't know. PM me if you want his contact info.

I've used Forward Air to ship a bike and spares from Chicago to California.

It was pretty easy with their own shipping containers.

I was able to pack a spare engine, wheels and boxes of extra bits all around the bike.

+1 on Wolverine Cycle. Used him to get a bike from Pacific NW to Ohio last year. Great communication and he also brought along a crate of spares for no extra charge.

Good information guys. i was thinking about shipping a bike down to where my mom is staying in Florida. That way all I have to do is get on a plane and rent a uhaul truck to go ride some southern tracks.

Shipped a bike not long ago, and since I suffer from CRS (can't remember shit), all I can tell you is they did a great job, and will give you an AMA discount. Just say you are a racer, and AMA, etc. Apparently they get some business with AMA, and/or advertise with them. Hope that helps.
