I did beat him once...it was really wet and he crashed out right in front of me on the 2nd lap. But he generally beats me...its just that my bike in a straight line is faster....we all know that isn't rider.
Got some "great" news last night. Took apart two good running motors for rebuilds, and surpise surprise both had cracked the cases on the flywheel side. Stupid horsepower and 15 year old cases.
One set of the cases were originally yours from the package you sold Anthony Dean, they are cracked in a few places around the crank bearing journal/hole. Some orginate in casting marks, two run through the machined surface of the bearing seat. Totally junk now. The other set has a much smaller crack that hasnt made it to the machined surface yet, will most likely machine and weld that one. Regular guy, just regular stupid hp, 87-92.
what are the nominal dimensions of that bearing setup? BMW uses full-circle main bearings on the crank on the air-cooled twins, and they are interference with a lot of heat on the case and a lot of freeze in the bearing and installation tool, then a retaining pin. I'm thinking that would work great in the SV application. Never actually compared dimensions, though. As concerns the splits between halves, I would seek to put them as far as possible from the major thrust vectors.
Yeah that would be an improvement, we have looked into making one but just cant justify it compared to the cost of new cases.
