I've got a local guy who needs a shock for an old bandit. The dealership told him $1500 to buy and install a new oem shock  Knowing Suzuki, I'm sure there are other shocks (GSXR) that are interchangeable and readily available. Does anyone know which ones?

Should be really easy to measure the length and check for the type of mounting. I would bet that an older Katana/GSXR/SV shock would bolt right up. They sell for about $30-$40 online.

I rebuilt and installed a 90s gsx-r750 shock in my bandit 600 (1996 model). Remote reservoir type. Easy sway.

Stiffer spring, way taller, more adjustable. Not sure if I like the way it handles yet lol.

Not that I would suggest he buy new OEM but retail is $633 and they sell at most places on line for $470 or so..
If that shop charges roughly $1000 to install a shock they need to be called out and shamed.
That's what the internet is for. That and porn.

What he said... post up the free length (in mm) of the stock shock- I've got a list in front of me from SV and CBR250 shock swap research.

Thank you guys for the help. I believe we've convinced the guy to go with a 90's GSXR shock. It should be a direct bolt up. He posted up on a local forum and had no idea what he was talking about so that's where the wild estimate came from.

If they're close in length/spring rate, go for a later model GSXR shock- they're a dime a dozen

I have a fully functional shock from a 97 GSXR750 I'll sell him dirt cheap. lol

Such older shocks may be in need of service...

What are the specs on the bike shock?

What is the recommended spring rate for his weight?

I'm sure they may be in need of service at that age as well... But on a commuter bikes shock "need" is a relative term.

I had an old 2002 Bandit 600S that I put a 2005 Hayabusa shock on. Direct fit although it sat about 1" higher with the bandit linkage. iirc I bought it off ebay for $50 or $60 shipped.
