I'm restoring a basket case YZ125 that I picked up a while ago. The decals on the plastics are not really an issue since I'm going to get new bodywork, but the airbox and the tank ones are. These things come off very hard, and are leaving a ton of very tacky residue and even some hard parts of the stcker on. What can I use to remove it that will not discolor or otherwise damage the tank and airbox plastic?
3M adhesive remover. Sold at hardware stores in a spray can. May take a few applications to melt the adhesive, but won't damage the plastic.
Well, sorta. 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 3M Part Number 051135-08984 The stuff is amazing!! I get it at auto detailing shops but I'm sure you can find it at Home Depot or other mega store. Great stuff!
Actually yeah, zippo fluid (whichever brand) is not a whole lot different than kerosene or the like and works at removing adhesive.
ronsol lighter fluid Well, sorta. 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner I sure think these are the same, they work great.
Pour some of the stuff you put in the tank onto a rag (soak it) & leave it one one side overnight in a well ventilated area (outside). In the morning it will be all gooey. Wipe. Repeat for other side. The key is to keep feeding that glue a solvent to break it down. Gas soaked rags are the least labor intensive.
