This is the most pleasant surprise to see something like this in the Post... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/25/AR2010052505063.html?hpid=artslot
That's awsome. My first time at summit point (second time at a track ever) I missed pit-in and slowed down to enter at pit-out (newbie then, flame away) and Al ripped me apart for doing that, put me in my spot, next time out, I made sure i didn't pass up pit-in. Great guy though and never had hard feelings for him chewing me out. Amazed he's still doing what he loves!
Was Al the start/finish flagman at Nelson in the 80's? I distinctly remember a very old guy (60s?) giving and unusual pre-race presentation and insisting that he show the checkered while standing on track at the finish line. Who ever it was, it was almost his last race.
Yeah he is, I was glad to see them include his wife in the story, the two of them were inseparable, she was always a fixture at the track with her crocheting or knitting or whatever it was....I've got more respect and admiration for that guy and just the example he sets, he is racing...
I don't recall Al at Nelson in the 80's, but I can't swear he wasn't...I know he was always at Pocono back then, that's where we met in '85, and Summit of course...
Someone should get Al to ride a parade lap. Like the guy said in the article, help him on and off the bike.
 "I'm fast with the flag!" It's been a long time since I raced, but I could never forget an Al rider meeting.
