I would be all for that plan or something similar to it, but the issue is that there are almost 300 of hostages from other nations on shore in Somalia that would be made to pay the price for our aggression towards these scumbags. "Phillips is just one of about 270 hostages from a variety of countries being held by Somali pirates preying on the busy sea-lanes of the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. " http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N10335102.htm You think we have an image problem now overseas? Wait until families of murdered hostages blame the US for the deaths of their family members because we killed some "innocent fishermen" off the coast of Somalia. Unfortunately, the time for this plan has since passed. Once they took other hostages ashore, the end game we can play has changed.
Sad fact is that it is WAY cheaper to just pay then send in warships, troops, planes. I still like the drone idea or special forces launched from subs... I mean if the mother ships just started sinking for unknown reasons......could be sea monsters or Capt Nemo
We could pay all the ransome payments, receive the hostages that are still alive and then flatten the piss-and nation and be rid of them....or maybe we'll just relocate them all to the US like we've been doing already with the US Refugee Resettlement Program. http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/orr/index.html http://www.usembassy.at/en/embassy/photo/rusch.htm
That is interesting you say that, because when this story first broke, I read that frogmen were involved with the rescue. But that story disappeared within the hour and the sniper story came out.
SEALS have snipers too... damn good ones. You don't put Army snipers on Navy ships to shoot at men in boats. It's just not natural. I would say that there is more to the story than just 3 SEAL snipers popping the guys from the fantail but probably not much more. You have a crew of several hundred men/women on the Bainbridge... secrets aren't that easy to keep. Security clearances and debriefings are great in theory but not representative of reality on stuff like this. Pulling that lifeboat in slowly to a close range and shooting from the fantail is about as easy as it gets. The story given makes sense but there are likely some details left out like use of thermal imaging from the SEAL attached to the bottom of the lifeboat or stuff like that. The movie will be much more intriguing with the HALO jumps and underwater SEAL deployment... some hoorahhs and shit like that. The reality is that they operate with the idea of simple, easy and safe(for the hostages). Safe being the priority.
A friend of mine is working for a company that is taking old Coast Guard cutters and outfitting them with electronics and weapons. Going to do escort services over there. Here is one of the smaller fun toys.
