Sound like a cranky old man. But a 16 year old and an 18 year old are on the yacht for the day. Started talking to them, got 2 paddleboards, been killing the inshore fishing sunrise and sunset, was going off on one oyster bar across the channel at sunset yesterday. Until 2 cheeky lazy dolphins showed up and scared the fish away but pretty cool having dolphins hang out around the paddleboard. Just don't get it, have the poles, the lures, the spot, guaranteed fish and the nucklheads would rater stare at their phone instead of get outside and enjoy the world

Kids that age aren't even Millennials.

But yes, with the proliferation of smart phones people have become more dependent on them for a dopamine drip. There's an amazing world out there, and hopefully people can find a balance between the information available and experiencing the actual world itself.

Should we blame the kids and their phones, or the people who put the phones in their hands?

Neither, because I would have been the same just with a book instead of a phone. Kids are no different now than they've ever been, some are into doing stuff, some aren't.

I have had to ask some people who were not teens to put away their phones when we were dining out.
Sitting there glued to a phone instead of engaging with your dinner companions is rude.

Dunno, I think the old folks want it to be more different than it really is. Just like every generation sits there going "well back in my day!".

Hell, main difference I see is technology has people getting way more social interaction with a more diverse group of the population than ever before.

My response after sitting there listening to people I don't want to be at dinner with in the first place would be way more rude than me staying silent on my phone.... :D

my daughter is not allowed to use electronic devices other than a select few educational apps I’ve installed on an iPad and locked everything else out of. And that’s only for about an hour, and never while we’re out somewhere. We also limit her television. All of the wealthiest/most successful people don’t let their kids use technology until they are older. Steve Jobs didn’t let his kid use iPhones/iPad... what does that tell you.
