Maybe this is blasphemus, but KR never did anything for me. I get that he's a racing legend, but whenever I hear him talk/see him in an interview, he just seems like a pompous ass. I have tremendous respect for him and all that he's achieved, but I'd rather sit and have a beer with Wayne or Schwantz.

 

Maybe that's why Ricky Bobby gets along with him so well

Yeah, but I “get it”. Guys with that much success in this arena do get cocky but have the skins on the wall to back it up. That kind of personality never appealed to me, I guess.

I’m sure he’s a great neighbor and fantastic father. But he’s pubic persona is a bit putoffish

He does come across as cocky but he talks about what other riders do better or different than him. In the interview he even said I couldn't do what 'so and so' did in a particular corner. For his ability there is still some humility. And yes I am one of those that thinks he may have been the best that ever was.

 

Just tuned into the pod. Listening to Kenny made my week.

 

I almost met him at Laguna Seca. I was working T10 and he walked up and stood beside me
watching the track. After a few minutes, he turned and walked away. Never said a word.

 

Question is : is he cocky because he is/was winning or is he winning because he is/was cocky ?

 

Both, and he obviously likes being a jerk.

I haven’t listened to the interview yet, but @pjzocc summed up my feelings perfectly. I totally respect what he did on track, but anyone that can treat his kids how he did, isn’t a good person in my eyes.

I admire Schwartz, Rainey, Hayden, Spies, and many others.....but as great a racer as Roberts was, I don’t admire him, only based on what i’ve heard him say and his actions. I really feel sorry for his kids, having to grow up with a father that was that big of an asshole.

 

Roberts didn't have much of an answer for a young man from Shreveport, LA.
