This is why engineers (or electricians) make for crap scientists.
They are not strictly "more" of a hazard*; they are strictly more uncertain because we don't know a lot about their behavior, them being novel and all.
The biomechanics of the immune response already shows a lot of the same structure of other viruses, which makes sense. That doesn't mean squat about wholesale population response or the intricacies of figuring a manner to enhance them.

*probability x intensity; everytime and twice on sundays (and still only half the risk equation).

And not all virus originate nor infest animals (phage, anyone?). Huge amounts of what we know in virology has been from studying viruses that attack beer yeast (fungi too, are not animals). Go Beer Yeast!

The graph is not very well legended. I interpret that to be today's values which are constantly in flux until all reporting comes in. That is, the total number for 3/24 as sourced, in real time.

Quite honestly it probably should have been. The casino is probably one of the worse places outside of an airport to be exposed to something.

Or you could just shoot yourself in the face and boom, instant immunity. Also relieves stress and the need for additional toilet paper.

Aww Dave, I miss it so when you don’t condescend to me for so long.

So you don’t have an answer either on how the covid-19 virus affects immunological response differently than say H1N1, eh?

As I have read the various responses in this thread it is with great relief that instead of this virus an alien invasion did not take place. I think I can guess how various people would respond.
Scene: Earth’s nations have detected objects moving rapidly towards the planet. It appears these objects will be here with in the hour. In 53 minutes, gigantic spaceships appear above all of the large bodies of water across the Earth.

All radio and TV frequencies across the globe, go blank and a voice is heard. It is the aliens.

Aliens: Greetings people of Earth. We come to your world in peace. We are the Aqua people from the planet Epsilon 7 in a galaxy many light years from yours. Although our technology and weapons are far superior to you planet’s and we could take what we want, we wish to negotiate with you for something on your world. Please send a delegation to the following coordinates. We will meet there in 24 hours.

A meeting takes place at the United Nations and one of Earth’s brightest minds is selected for the negotiations. The person is transported to the coordinates provided by the Aquas.

Alien: Greetings, I am called Norn.
Earth Lead Negotiator: Hello, I am called <take your pick of some people here>
Alien: I will get straight to the point, we wish to take all of your world’s water back to Epsilon 7. What is that we could give you in return? We have detected a pathogen that is sweeping your planet, could we help you with that?
ELN: Woah, all of the water, man that is a pretty big ask. The pathogen, eh that is just a statistically insignificant anomaly. Could you ensure the world’s economy remains intact instead?
Aliens: Yes that would be quite simple to accomplish.
    ELN: ok, done.

  7. I can admit I haven’t been PURE.

I’ve went to the store twice, Academy once, and I go visit Reggie and the cows every day.

But I did use sanitizer before and after I touched anything (that other people handle), and I stayed far away from everyone (which isn’t hard, because the city is dead and almost everything is closed).

The whole Mall is closed. But some places offer drive up. Like there is a place called Mahoney’s (bunting/sporting goods), they have a table up front. You can’t go inside, or even get out of your car. But you can tell them what you want and they go get it.

It’s kinda cool. I just asked for a box of ammo for a 44 Magnum and he was like “No problem, I’ll be right back”.

  10. As far as the 14 days, that is basically trying to accomplish 2 things.

    1. It lets people (or business, or even countries) gauge where they are. If everyone is running around unknowingly spreading it, then you don’t know what you are dealing with.

The 14 days just hits “pause” on everything to allow those who are infected show symptoms, to learn they are infected, without infecting others the whole time.

    2. It (hopefully) gives sick people a chance to get better, to free up beds and equipment.

It is an effort to “spread out” people getting sick to give more people an opportunity for care, instead of everyone being sick at the same time.

  11. Ok. That made me

Way to remind me that it’s been 360 days since my last Guinness. Dick. :(

Well you'd be stupid to do so. You can live with the pathogen for quite sometime and even out live it. You can live about 4 days without water. You'd be a fucking idiot to give up the water. Likely dead either way so....

Of course we can go down the path of the ridiculous but to fully explore that one would require a section of the beeb to open back up.
