Wondering if he suffered a concussion. If not, and got/gets medically cleared you may see him race this weekend. Never know. Be interesting to see how it goes.
Earnhardt had always said they needed to do something in regards to the cars/restrictor plate racing or before someone got killed.
There was a string of crashes a few years ago where cars hit similar to where lajoie took damage to his car, I think that's when they added the bar based on Newman and others pushing for it. The Austin Dillon crash at Daytona was apart of it I believe
Dood... Where's your shoes? Totally amazed at the fact that this picture is possible less than 48 hours after I would have bet that the guy was dead.
Driver protection has come a long way since Dale Sr was racing. Just watch the difference in crash violence between Newman's wreck and what killed Sr
Those 2 pics illustrate the biggest problem with safety advances. How the ladies gonna see your sweet ass 'stache when your wearing a full face helmet? They cant. That's why Safety Sucks.
That pic of him walking out of the hospital barefoot would have been classic if Roush had a Cup car parked there as if it were picking him up.
Absolutely, and deservedly so! However, wasn't so much the actual crash impact persay... that killed Dale Sr. (well if he hadn't crashed he'd be alive, but you know what I mean : ), as it was the seat belt separating and him not being held in place upon impact with the wall. There have been so many far worse looking crashes than Dale Sr.'s & Newman's, dating back decades ago pre restrictor plates and drivers walking away unscathed. Just unfortunate shit happens sometimes.
Also, you have to wonder if there was a bit of marketing going on with the severity of the crash. I mean, everyone has been talking about it, from morning shows to TMZ. Then for him to walk out after 48hrs, you have to wonder if they were keeping quiet about his injuries to keep people interested.
Actually, that is not quite correct and that cause has been specifically disproven. What killed Dale Earnhardt Sr. was a basal skull fracture, caused by his head snapping forward as a result of the impact, and not a broken seat belt. There's plenty of info on this out there, take a look at this. https://us.motorsport.com/nascar-cu...irms-earnhardt-died-of-head-injuries/1872898/ "In the report, Myers, a professor of biomedical engineering at Duke University, stated "Earnhardt didn't die from striking his head on a steering wheel because of a malfunctioning seat belt, as NASCAR officials have suggested." What killed Earnhardt, Myers stated in his report, was the weight of his unrestrained head whipping forward beyond the ability of his neck muscles to keep it from snapping away the base of the skull, just seconds after the impact with the wall at the Daytona 500..." The eventual NASCAR response to this and similar deaths from this cause in the preceding year of Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin Jr., and Tony Roper was to require use of the HANS device, which requires in turn a full face helmet to function.
By the way, just amazing that he is walking out of the hospital after that horrible crash. Good for him, and his little girls.
Ahhhh. Makes sense now sort of. But, still a bit confusing. I didn't know they had socks in Florida. Thought they only had flip-flops.
