I played the lottery and lost. So my 3 yo Chevy 5.3 with 90k miles is coming apart for AFM delete and slight performance cam and long tube headers. Anyone done this? Any hints or part preferences? Looking at using the LS7 lifters and springs, new oil pump, GM non AFM valley cover, etc. If ta’ll need me I’ll be in ththe garage for a few days. FML.
Oof. Have fun with that. New vehicles seem to suck to work on in my limited experience. I just put a transmission in a Subaru crosstrek and I wish I would have just paid somebody. What a headache.
Texas Speed and Performance for Stainless longtube headers and everything else. They are LS gurus. I was very pleased with all the service and hard parts I got from them for my 5.3LS/‘02 Silverado.
Maybe Kooks. I know they make gen v 4wd headers. Texas speed may be in play as well. Just disappointed my truck is gen v and the several years of gen iv had these issues and they didn't fix it. Just heard the newest models have afm on all cylinders. Good luck with that.
http://www.cammotion.com/camshafts/truck-camshafts/ Cam Motion is a small company out of Baton Rouge, LA They do LS stuff now. Kip and the guys are great to work with. Since it is just gonna be a mild 5.3 upgrade one of their off the shelf bump sticks will work fine along with suggested lifters. They ground custom cams for me when I used to drag race cagers. Old school 23 degree head gen 1 sb stuff back then. Made good power with their cams.
I have a pair of Speed Engineering longtubes for my truck Haven't installed them yet but they look super nice for what they cost
Not sure what issue your truck experienced by my wife's 2018 GMC 1500 (5.3) with 29,000 miles just started running like shit and threw a P0300 code. From what I have read something about a cylinder misfire. I already had to replace the master cylinder at 24,000 miles. I have been a die-hard GM guy my whole life but starting to get a little nervous about this truck. Oh, and go Edelbrock on everything...
Mine had a slight tick when cold for over a year and 50k miles. Last couple months it got worse. Last couple weeks threw codes for misfire, knock system failure and couple others. Went into limp on my mom once. Couple days of bad codes, flashing CEL. Dropped at dealer when I left town for work. They say it’s lifter internals. I don’t have extended warranty so it’s on me. Not an impossible job just a lot of wrenching, in the cold barn.
