Searching for info concerning the topic (asking for a friend) I didn't see a dedicated thread. What are you guys using to secure your presses but not take up room in your workspace? Seeking ideas, whatchu got?
Head over to www.thehighroad.org and check out the reloading thread there. Lots of great bench pictures in the bench reloading thread.
i anchored my press to a 2' x 2' sheet of 1" plywood. i have (8) 1/2" bolts that pass through the plywood, and through my work bench, which i use to anchor the 2'x2' sheet to my workbench when im ready to use the press. i thought that would be good, so i could pull the bolts and lift the 2' square section and press off and retain my workbench top... i just leave it bolted there about 90% of the year. im lucky enough to have plenty of workbench area though, so it doesnt affect my other projects and daily hone-do list stuff.
Inline fabrication. They make mount and press plate. Mount stays fixed to workbenche and plate attaches to press for quick mount/unmount. Exactly what you are looking for. https://inlinefabrication.com/collections/quick-change-press-mounting-system Scroll down for flush mount plate.
Does it have a sweet smell to it? How’s it been stored? If remotely questionable, make it fertilizer and buy new.
it’s been stored in its metal container in a somewhat damp basement. I’m thinking I should get rid of it but wanted a second opinion. Which leads to the next question, how does one properly dispose of the powder?
What kind of metal container? Is there any corrosion inside of the container of is the powder lumped together at all? How many pounds and what powder are we talking about? My press is bolted to my steel bench all the time unless I need the extra bench room(like rebuilding a motor or tranny).
If it ends up being no good, find a good flower bed and pour it in that. It’ll break down in the soil.
They are quite old pistol powders, from what I can find. If the powder looks ok, I would load test it I guess.
