Let’s really fuck with him and explain why a wye 3-phase has 120v per phase with 208v between phases. :D

    They have VFDs in them?

So the two 120 legs being out of phase makes it 240 volts, whereas if it was in phase it would only be 120 with twice the amperage?

Yea..... plus you have a fresh water tank that could supply a small country for a week :D (at least if it's the same size as Richard's and you guys have sorta the same type of rig).....

Correct. So load to neutral for either leg is 120v, but load to load (when 180 deg out of phase) is 240v. If the loads aren't 180deg out of phase you won't get that.

Is that why they call it parallel operation when they are in phase?

No, VFD stuff is quite forgiving since it actually alters the frequency. PWM is kind of like switching the motor on and off really fast to control speed. How fast is calculated based on a clean 180 degree sine wave. If the legs are slightly out of phase the microprocessor gets angry.

    It's a pair of 50 gallon tanks :D

Maybe it's a pair of 100 gallons? Yeah, has to be, they're bigger than the fuel tanks and those are 70 each.

My sissy-pansy class A only holds 100 gallons....

You can also try to explain how a rotary phase convertor makes 3 phase power out 220v single phase. I've done enough reading to make my head hurt but there is a 15hp RPC sitting in the garage waiting on the electricians to get here.

Hopefully going on a truck on before the weekend gets here. It may cost me a high performance beetle however. If my measurements turn out to be wrong the beetle may no longer fit in the garage. It'll have to go to a new home.

Well...shit. I didn't really think about that. I guess I could have got it done that way. Not that coming to Georgia to climb around in my attic pulling cable is high on your priority list I'm sure. :D

Not if you put the proper torque on your mechanical connections ;)
