I'm going back to arguing with the wall in my office. It is nowhere near as dense as you are.

I didn't dispute your point. What you see as arrogance I see as cold hard fact. You're a hypocrite in so many ways I can't even begin to list them. You rail against socialism yet you expect to be treated as if we're all equals? You laugh at "snowflakes" who need a safe space, but you're constantly offended by everything you see in the media.

    Unless it's ryoung instead of a 16 year-old because
ryoung is too smart to fall for the bullshit.
How tragic that he is surrounded by idiots
who can't take care of themselves because they need
someone smart to take care of them.
    Someone really wicked friggin' smaht.

    Like ryoung.

    I'm done with this class.

Whatever. You don't want to understand, you just want to be a stubborn, bitter, old man.

Think of it like cigarettes. Once upon a time smoking was portrayed as glamorous and cool, with hot chicks and rugged men puffing away in advertisements encouraging everyone to light up. Then we realized this shit was seriously bad for you and put an end to that. We have not collectively had that realization about college. Sure, the people that really get serious about it and look at the numbers understand, but there's been a MASSIVE collective effort to gloss over the pitfalls of borrowing money for higher ed because there's so much profit to be made. All I'm saying is that, instead of "letting them learn their lesson" we should, as a society, be brutally honest with young people (and their parents) about what they're getting into instead of continuing to push the lie that everyone can be an astronaut. We should be ACTIVELY ENCOURAGING people to look into the real earning potential of degrees. We should NOT be loaning money to people who aren't going after legit degrees. We should encourage people to get into trades and stop treating blue collar workers as second rate citizens.

This isn't rocket surgery, and it isn't some affront to your "personal responsibility" maxim. It's just common sense.

While your reply has nothing to do with the intelligence you assume you have (confidence is a good thing btw), I have to respond.

I believe in a world of wolves and sheep. Provided someone has no mental or physical disability, I believe they are subject to this darwinesque truth. Some take, some give, that is reality. I dont feel as though its my job to help anyone I dont wish to help.

Your weak attempt to insult me aside, survival of the fittest only goes so far. Even in the animal kingdom it's not "everyone for themselves". All pack animals attempt to help each other for the good of the group. Human's are pack animals, and I don't think we necessarily disagree on this ideal, we just disagree on the size of our pack.

Nothing bolsters an argument as effectively as this.

Know what’s a great source of encouragement? Holding people responsible for the consequences of their poor choices, and not letting them blame others for their easily avoided mistakes.

That is exactly what it is: an affront to personal responsibility. Even a rocket surgeon like you should be able to piece that together in your Wile E. Coyote Super Genius mind.

Why IN THE FUCK do you think everyone should learn the hard way? You're encouraging people to fuck other people over. Are you such a petty, miserable little man that you want everyone to suffer?

I could fulfill my obligation to show you the clear light of reason, but I will not do so. My decision, however, is not motivated by apathy, greed, or bad will. The sheer enormity of the task simply confounds me. Does this make me a bad person?

Only a rabid consumer of lead paint chips reads “hold people responsible for their bad choices” as “go fuck people over”.

Quick jump online and find best paying jobs, average starting salary for a elementary school teacher in your state, average salary of a social worker, average salary of a mechanical engineer, average salary of a heating and cooling tech.

You will find all of it readily available and while not all sources will be 100% accurate or in agreement if you focus on any one of those you can get a ballpark number in minutes. So if you are talking a major life decision and devote a day or two of effort the information is easy to get. Or you can do as you 'feel' and expect rainbows and unicorns to be the norm. Personally I really don't care which. If I met you and you think #2 might not be the approach I would provide any advice you want. It would be free and if you ignored it no hard feelings and I would wish you well. But you are not my problem. Nor is your spouse, your kids or even your dog. If you become my problem I fix it and you might not like the solution (such as you think dog fighting is an option or other illegal acts).
