Any idea what hit my wife's car?

It was hit while parked on the street overnight. All the damage is on the roof, no side damage
although there were a couple of marks on the posts. At first I thought a towing mirror but the
damage extends to the middle of the roof and actually angles toward the passenger side.
It was hit from back to front. I'm stymied as to how this happened.

Guy with ladder or something else overhead, turning and not realizing one end was low. One part of the ladder dinged the door arch and the longer part tore up the roof. He realized it, and started to lift it while rotating which led to the scrape type marks.

 

You didn't notice it before, but she drove into a garage with the low hanging bars.

 

She hit an antlered deer and then parked it.

 

Yep. I would go with ladder or something similar. Ask your neighbors if any of them had work or painting done on their homes yesterday.

 

Was it Garbage day? Some trucks have those auto picker uppers on right...

 

Vehicle driving around with huge pile of snow/ice on their roof?

 

I'd say a tree branch.
