Holy smokes, that would be an interesting way to fund government... I like the thought exercise!

This whole mess has been a nasty festering sore for decades. The right never wanted to solve it due to the cheap labor for big business. The left never wanted to solve it due to votes. Whether it's exponential or not, it's a very real problem, and no country in the world deals with it to the extent we do.

No one really knows how many illegals we have. Estimates range from a low of 10Million to a high of up to 40Million. By various middle guesses, supposedly 20 Million illegals in this country. So between 5 and 10% of our entire population is here illegally. Anyone who doesn't see that as a problem that we should solve has an agenda of one sort or another.

I heard today on the news that illegal immigration is down to an all-time low. We now only have 400,000 illegals entering the country per year. Think of how many people that actually is. That's a truly incredible number of folks continuing to enter that we don't know who they are, what they're here for, where they came from, etc. Sure, I'm willing to bet that 99% of them are here to work and better their lives. But the rest are not. And 100% of them have a demonstrated lack of respect for the laws of the United States.

I'm growing increasingly comfortable with the ideas of 1) leaving the government (partially) shutdown, and 2) supporting Trump exercising emergency action to deal with this crisis. It has been a defining issue of our time, and I suspect there won't be anyone along any time soon after Trump who is willing to deal with it directly.

So it looks like we can safely put Galloway in the one time wall fund. By the way, your one time contribution is $384.61 give or take a buck or two. That's based on an estimate of $25 billion to build the wall divided by the number of Trump voters. I'm betting he can get it done for less and when push comes to shove, 1/3 of moderate Democrats will select this option also. Your actual one time bill will likely be closer to $325. Your annual...maybe 10 bucks.

I don't think an issue that lasts for over 30 years can be considered a crisis. I guess our definition differs.

The very fact that the issue hasn't been dealt with in 30 years is the reason for the crisis. Maybe you prefer dilemma. Either way, it's an issue that the can has been getting kicked down the road for decades and those of us that want it solved, want it done so while we have a president with the balls to take on the issue.

It isn't due to lack of illegal workers, it's due to lack of people doing the work. There are plenty of people from nearby towns that could do it but won't, if you had to pay $20/hr you'd have to charge 20/small box of cherries. Point was if there was a crisis in the amount of people crossing the border there probably wouldn't be a shortage of workers, It wasn't that way 10-12 years ago, but has been for the past several years.

Cherry pickers get paid by the amount they pick, they can do better than 15/hour, packing shed sorts the fruit, they're about 10/hour, get paid OT after 8 and 40 in a week. There aren't too many crops that I can think of that are more lucrative than cherries, but they' are also a crop that can be ruined by rain at the wrong time.

More just your insinuation that middle easterns don't come here illegally or that it is extremely rare. I'm not saying they are all (or any) are terrorists but they definitely come.

They don't belong to the DoD, if ever they did. They were Dept of Treasury...Customs. Now they're DHS.

The government paying residents for doing nothing is why there is any demand for imported labor.

human interest story on public radio talking about how a nonessential govt worker (remained anonymous) went ahead and got a payday loan to cover the missing check he wont get today for $750 or 1/2 his take home. I find it apalling people are so accustomed to hand 2 mouth living.

Something like 61% of the American populace couldn't handle a $1000 emergency. That's disgusting.

And I'd suspect that that number is higher among the ""I'm just glad I'm not working at McDonald's"" TSA employees.

And we get the split the savings too! An annual check every year. It would be a good investment!

no doubt. I was always amazed how folks would show up on payday even though they had the day off especially ones with a 30 min commute
