    I'm always looking at the cross traffic before I start through the intersection, even a car/bike of two back from the light.

    I think the lucky/unlucky part was the brown SUV on his right lollygagging after the light turned green.

    Unlucky because it appears to me that he was getting set to shoot to the right & go around the vehicle in front of him. If the SUV had gone with everyone else, that gap wouldn't have been there, and he might have been hanging back far enough to have avoided this altogether.

    Lucky in that she wasn't there to run over him when he hit the pavement.
