Safety here. In a touchdown saving situation, you take the penalty. Game saving? No question, take the penalty, even if it means they get one more free play. Maybe with it being a spot foul in the NFL you have to bring other considerations, but I would have taken the foul.

 

Either way, the Saints lost. And it's funny watching the meltdown.

 

If the saints had taken the foul, it's my understanding that the game couldn't end on defensive foul and the vikes could have then kicked a field goal for the win. Right? Either way great quarter to watch.

 

Yeah, they would have had a free play and could have kicked a field goal. That's why I said spot foul brings other considerations. But I still would have gone for him with an effort to be turned to the ball. If it looked at all like the defender was going for the ball, they wouldn't throw the flag.
Then again, I'm not a pro ball player.
