I dont see the point of discussing this with any anti-gun person. It is pointless.

There would have still been echos. The shots were located by muzzle flash. The suppressor would have reduced/eliminated that. Still, it wouldn't have mattered. He would have had all the time he wanted to shoot. He probably shot until he ran out of ammo. It'll come out soon enough, but I'm pretty sure he stopped shooting several minutes before the police breached the hotel room door.

Going all conspiracy theory, what's to say that the real shooter didn't hold this guy hostage, cap him, then walk out with all of the other terrified hotel goers?

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens
    [IMG]

ISLA VISTA, CA—In the days following a violent rampage in southern California in which a lone attacker killed seven individuals, including himself, and seriously injured over a dozen others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Tuesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said North Carolina resident Samuel Wipper, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations. “It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this guy from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what he really wanted.” At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past five years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

You know the tinfoil hats are already going nuts over this. There will be all kinds of false flag and assassination theories. There always are. How long until Area 51 comes into it? They're saying the shooter worked for Lockheed in the 80's. Area 51 isn't far from Vegas.

Enlighten us. How would this have been stopped? Gun laws? The laws saying he shouldn't kill people should've already stopped it. For the millionth time ... the criminals don't give a shit about the laws. Once he decided to do damage, it was just a question of how.

After 9/11, security screenings went up tremendously and new rules were issued in regards to keeping the cockpit door closed to prevent a similar tragedy. That's generally what happens when a flaw is exposed - we take steps to mitigate that risk (in Europe where they've had cars drive into crowds, they've increased the perimeter and added more defenses, etc.). People made bombs out of fertilizer, so the FBI started tracking who's getting fertilizer delivered who's not on a farm.

    Depends which question you're asking:

    a) This particular incident? Who's to say - Europe (some countries) have relatively strict gun laws, but if a nutcase wants a gun he/she (let's be honest, almost always a "he") can most likely procure one.

    b) If you're talking about the frequency of these incidents ("mass shootings") in the United States? Without question that would be reduced with more strict gun laws (IMO - if someone disagrees I'm more than willing to hear why you do).

Nothing you can do about guns, there are too many of them. Not to mention when Clinton banned assault rifles is took about two minutes for companies to redesign the stock to get around that and they were still largely available. As many of you have said on this board it's about crazy people, be them right wing, left wing, muslim, christian, they're fucking nuts so how about we start there. Actually making mental healthcare available to people who need it (for free) would be a good start.
