Roughly 120 BMW X3, X4, X5, and X6 models were damaged yesterday afternoon when the freight train transporting them derailed on the way from the carmaker’s Spartanburg, South Carolina factory.

 

I saw that on the news last night and my heart broke.

 

Two trains, one track. Something doesn't look good here. At least it appears as one track. Somebody done fucked up.

 

The video on the news showed them moving the BMWs with those giant demo claws, bulldozers and a backhoe.

 

All of them will be scrapped. We've lost some on rail before. Also we've lost some at harbor and at sea. It happens. Even though I stay at odds with my company for some of their ways, I will say that they take one defect very seriously. We'll start over new and make it right. In fact, we've already started. All of those cars will be remade and shipped within a few days.

Looks like I'll be sucking up a lil OT.

 

They probably would never see a dealership anyway. Even with minor damage and a fix. I'm guessing. ? Probably no difference in monies lost. Again, guessing.

Don't they sometimes donate them to schools to work on as well? I remember my shop class had a Geo Tracker that GM donated.

 

Yeah sometimes. We also donate leftover/outdated robots and software to tech schools.

 

I remember several years ago a ship hauling something like ALL of the Mazda3's destined for North America at the time had some issue. It didn't sink but took on a bunch of water, listed really bad, and the entire cargo was scrapped.

when i did an internship at BMW motorrad in '04, i got over 40 K1200S distributed to tech schools and universities

 

add the extra $$$ to the race fund. or the beer fund for at track use only.
