Does anyone know of a card that will allow you to record hd tv from a hd directv receiver? I use to use hauppauge but that was low D.
It's illegal to produce a card that bypasses the HDCP security features. Therefore, there are no HD capture cards on the market.
But it can be done. Although the HD Fury may no longer be available. All those cheap Chinese HDMI splitters on Ebay would never be able to do such a thing either would they.
Not exactly sure if you're implying that since HDMI splitters exist, you can find a recording device that takes HDMI input. Not at all the same thing. Splitters don't record video so they can legally pass through HDCP protection to a monitor.
They don't care about what you record your shows with for your personal viewing pleasure. They care whether you have the potential to upload that content for everyone to view without paying the license fee to watch it.
What do you want me to do supply a detailed drawing with a product list, connection details and anything else he may need. The information is available to those who want it or those who are clever enough to figure it out.
He's got all the information he needs already. You can do 1080i all day long to the HDPVR over component cabling. One could make the argument that 1080i isn't really HD due to the interlacing but that's another discussion. If you want the 1080p output from the HDMI interface then you'd need an HDPVR 2 and an HD Fury or one of the many little Chinese splitters that are nothing more than HDCP strippers. It's not rocket surgery or hard to accomplish. Do you need me to tell you how to tie your shoes now or can you handle that on your own?
