Good luck with that. The US political system is full of corrupt lobbyists and is as fucked up as a soup sandwich. Look at the current Presidential candidates.
What is even worse is I was using moving back to Canada as my escape plan if things ever got really bad here and you guys went and elected Justin Trudeau. He is just a whiter dumber version of Obama and I think he will unwittingly engineer the dumbing down and decline of Canada.

The whole lobbying thing drives me crazy. Your government doesn't represent you... They represent those who lobby the most (read: spend the most to get a what they want). But i digress.....

Trudeau seems like an idiot but some of is choices for cabinet ministers were good. I'm cautiously optimistic that some good can come of his administration.

The Ontario provincial government is a disaster. It actually has me wanting to leave Ontario (and Canada actually) but I probably shouldn't tell you where I'm going..... Just cuz socialism is bad [emoji6]

I didn't say Medicare was better, but here is the problem: Medicare is so underfunded that reimbursement is pennies on the dollar. There are so many people on Medicare that hospitals and doctors still accept it as a way to offset costs (it's still revenue vs. unrecoverable expense since you can't turn people away). The rest of the bill is passed on to those able to pay, namely the insured. With Obamacare, the government basically mandated people purchase a product. Your choice was buy from these insurance products or get hit with a big tax penalty. Fact is for many people, particularly those who are young and healthy, it cost more to carry insurance or pay the tax penalty than to pay out of pocket. And who profits? The government, by generating revenue unduly. I would rather the government have spent the money funding Medicare rather that squandering the resources they spent to get Obamacare up and running. Remember the webpage fiasco?

Let's get one thing straight, Mike. I don't care who you vote for, never have, never will.

It's been *you* parroting the "wasted vote" mantra any time anyone states their intention to deviate from your beloved one-party system. If you ask me (and anyone competent enough to not require a drool cup and adult diapers), that would be much more akin to a claim of moral superiority than "vote your conscience, don't let anyone tell you who to support" is.

In case you missed it, the latter is my position, and has been longer than you've been stomping your feet over it.

LOL, yep, I'm old for sure. I have however, after all these years, learned that voting one's deep seated yearning is not worth a shit if it allows an idiot to be elected. Unfortunately, someone running that has good ideas, is a good person, and might be a good president (in our opinion) but is polling at 2% has no chance of winning and everybody knows it. We have to admit that we are controlled by that "mob" that Hawk speaks of so often. We've always been in a situation where the country is careening down the road being steered to the right, then to the left, only to go back to the right again. Yeah, that could end if we could get everyone onto the same page and vote in a level headed politician that's a perfect person. All we have to do is get everyone's definition of "perfect" to be the same. Meanwhile, all we can do is to try to keep the "idiot in charge" from staying in charge so long that he screws the place up permanently.

LOL, yeah, I've heard that before and it's true that all losing votes are equal. There is a difference though. Every vote for a low polling third party candidate is positively a wasted vote whereas a vote for one of the two electable candidates is at least a somewhat viable vote.

It could be but the tax incentive for them to provide Health Care rather than pay from WWII has caused a distortion. Thus the paying customer is not the consumer anymore.

Further if the tax incentive went away it would be in the interest of the Insurance Companies to provide a different product to meet the different need. Speculation but one such item might be a fixed rate medical insurance similar to what you get on life insurance. Thus if you got in young (cheaper to insure) you got a lower rate that was guaranteed for XX years. Of course I have no idea what else might come up as that is the beauty of capitalism, a bunch of smart folks competing to be the best for the reward.

And the thousands of government folks that do not exist in some of those places. Some of them are good and ensure quality, many are not.

Again, ask McCain and Romney how much influence over Obama's decisions their "viability" bought them. My guess is about as much as Vermin Supreme. :)
Well, that's not exactly true for McCain, but we both know it's because he's a senator, not because he's a failed presidential candidate.

    You're just rambling now.
There are two possible winners in the Presidential race. I didn't decide that, that's the reality.
When a candidate gets over 50% of the votes. what percentage of the votes not voted does that include?
Not choosing is making a choice.

  16. HPPT

    HPPT !!!

There are as many possible winners as there are candidates. That's the reality, no matter how much you try to twist it. This whole discussion (well, the one I started) has been about candidates not belonging to the two parties that have you brainwashed into thinking (I'm using the word loosely at this point) that no one else can run in a presidential election.

And to this day, nobody can blame you for taking part in the mess that is the government, because you've never voted for any of them. Your guy never gets elected. The rest of us are just too stupid to see the brilliance of your candidates.
Thus you are the smart one. Right?
Not the ones drooling and shitting themselves, right?

No, no sense of superiority there.

Wtf are you talking about? There are always more than two candidates on the ballot, but that has nothing to do with their electability.
There was 30 names on the Republican NH primary ballot alone.
You want to argue that every racer on the grid has the same chance of winning?
Nobody has me brainwashed into anything, it's just reality.
JRP ain't gonna win the Daytona 200, not matter how badly you might want him to.

Based on the mess that the country is in from going back and forth between establishment candidates I would say your last few sentences are far more accurate than you are willing to admit...:D
