Just took over Mosul, Tikrit, and a few other town in Iraq while killing 39 or so police and some other people. Isn't this the same people Obama gave a bunch of rockets to in Syria or am I getting it mixed up with another group?
I think you are getting mixed up. Those guys are actually fighting the rebellion that the West is helping.
Actually, Obama is the one that screwed the Status of Forces Agreement up that opened the door for situations like this. The Bush administration defeated the Iraqi Army, defeated the insurgency, and had a SOFA agreed to and waiting to be signed.
really??? REALLY!?!? really... oh cause i was under the impression that overthrowing a sunni back majority government, killing the one dude that kept all this bullshit locked down, setting the stage for a shia majority government to take shape, allowing for ethnic neighborhood cleansings thru various militia groups to take place and dudes like al-Sadr to run his mouth and have people do his ethnicly charged biddings, and creating a power void where career mujahadeens will flock to wherever's clever is what actually happened... whata you know... learn something every day.
Yup. The only thing keeping Iraq from being a Shia/Sunni battleground was the ruthlessness of Saddam's regime. In fact, guys like Saddam, Assad in Syria, Mubarak in Egypt, and Qadafi in Libya were the only things keeping a lot of the ME stable. Most of those guys were relatively secular and kept the extremist nutjobs underground.
I think the closest thing they found was the bootleg copy of "Weapons of Ass Destruction 7" that the SeALs found in Osama's porn stash
Someone is gonna have to take the blame for this fiasco and it sure isn't gonna be Floppy ears. Hilliary? Nope, she's running for president and she needs to be protected? Kerry? He's too stupid. Bush? Well, he did start all this. Afghanistan, same thing.
Nice to see the reports of the Iraqi military that we supposedly trained deserting their posts, weapons and ditching their uniforms. What a colossal waste of lives and billions of dollars.
Also reports of missed pay and lack of basic supplies (including food). Those are similar to reports from the Royal Guard under Saddam in 1991. IMO, at some point I think we just see the priority a factious nation puts on a common defense.
I was thinking about this last night. That area of the world seems to need ruthless dictators to keep things in order. It's the only kind of authority that area seems to understand...
Sorry, didn't make myself clear on all that. I'm talking Afghanistan falling into anarchy. I swallowed the iraq lies hook, line, sinker, fisherman and boat at the time. I was wrong and the US was wrong. Afghanistan? I think the US was right but we are wrong now in jumping ship even if the current government there is corrupt and a total mess.
Karzai is a total POS, in my opinion. I wonder what Afghanistan would be like today if Massoud hadn't been blown to pieces. Maybe just as bad, but I think there's a chance it could have been better.
Ya, good question. That guy was pretty cool. Phucking Bin Laden....wish he wouldn't have had Massoud assasinated..
