I can understand the anger of someone that has served seeing the flag improperly flown but they were still wrong.
Not at all, according to the Silicon Valley crowd. They were allowed their speech, they just have to deal with consequences. Isn't that how the argument goes? People were offended by their speech. That is a crime. Peoples of the collective have a right to not be offended.
What a bunch of pussies....want to protest and hold the flag union down, sure, that is your right. but dont run away like a giant coward when you are chased. Nut the fuck up! Not saying the marines where in the right either.
Those marines were simply making the scooter dudes dream come true. He wanted to display the flag upside down, a sign of diress and imminent danger-then he got that. case closed
The US Flag Code addresses it under a section for “Respect for flag.” The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. These people were doing the equivalent of yelling "fire" in a theater. There was no emergency. They were trying to incite panic.
Actually, the protest was about the police of Albuquerque being out of control and shooting a homeless man (2 actually in 2 days). The flag upside down, IF, that is why they had it that way and not just being hipsters, is appropriate IMO.
I wonder where IYC would line up if one of the protesters stood his ground and shot one of the thugs.
I'm arguing for the other team in this thread, so I'll have to think about that one. This Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon rationalizing process is new to me.
