Just found out the one of the race series providers has mandated that the 600 class (~sstk to you guys) has the Dunlop KR449 200/55R17 as the control tyre. Sounded a bit out there to to me but I guess it might be similar to other 180/190s. The Pirelli (dot supercorsas) I have run were 180/55 and ~642mm rear, and I have 656mm as the 200/55 diameter. I understand Herrin, Hayes, Bostrom etc have tested these, and might just be shooting in the dark here without riding a set first, but has anybody run this tyre on their 600 and got any feedback?

    Are you in Australia?

Are you sure you guys aren't running the KR449 190/55 on the 600's and the 200/55 for the 1000's???

"The KR449 rear 190/55R17 and 200/55R17 tires will be available in three compound combinations, Soft, Medium and Hard."

Seriously big tire for a 600 and not sure the rim is wide enough.

    Yep, FX600 is the class,
    http://www.formula-xtreme.com.au/xt...3945E114600A3C40CA25796D00022241!OpenDocument

I wont make you read it all but it's there - FX600 gets a 200/55, the 190 at the bottom of the table is the control wet tyre.

    And in the forums there:
"200/55 x 125/80 for FX600 , is that correct Terry ?" (Terry is the series key promoter)

    Response:
"Yes the FX600's will race on the same size tyres as the FX-Superbikes. Once I saw what was in the Dunlop tnder documents I asked them to show that this was a good move forward rather then a step backwards. They did this with a test on a FX600 with Kev Curtain prior to the close of the tender. That way I was able to see what they were saying about how that size tyre worked so well on 600's several years ago was correct.

I would hazard a guess that all the lap records for the FX600 class fall in 2012.

    cheers,
    Terry"

    We'll see I guess.

    I see

Well, there are plenty of guys in the US who have run both the 195/65 NTEC slick, as well as the 200/55 D211GP on 5.5 inch 600 rims, so it's not that uncommon. I would imagine that it might require a little bit of testing preseason to iron our some of the chassis changes, but more than anything the tire will simply be taller.

It won't be anywhere as bad as you are thinking. In the picture below both tires are installed on a 5.5 in GSXR-600 rear rim. The difference in height on a 5.5 is actually quite small.

190/55 D211GP..........................................................................195/65 NTEC slick (basically same dimensions as the 200/55 slick.

no chassis change for me going from 190 to 200 on my zx6r. ran it all season in 2010. Dunlop specs call for a 5.5 or 6.0 rim for the 200 ntec. Corner grip is ridiculous.

  7. Yep, I am one of them. :)

But depending on what tire(s) you are coming from, you may need to make geometry changes. The 200/55 is pretty tall.

I swear this question comes up once a month, and people still spew BS...

The Dunlop 200s and 195s work perfectly well on 600s with 5.5" wheels.

  9. ed who?

ed who? the opposite of eharmony.

They will fit but still not the best fit for a 5.5 rim. If its a FX class should be running sbk wheels and thus a 6.0 rim which the 200 is fine. My own R65 i have a 6.0rear wheel and run the 190 even thou 200 is fine..i like the 190 cause its lighter and works well.

if your running stock wheels the 200 works, just not the best..plus its a heavy wheel! In SBK/FX your most likely running a 130+hp 600 and aftermarket wheels so it shouldn't be an issue.
