I'm as desperate as it gets, I guess. I am moving in with my fiancee, and have to vacate my apartment this weekend (lease is up). Since November we have been trying to adopt my cats to someone, as I have been diagnosed allergic, for going on three years now, and I can not move again with them, the health complications they are causing me are too much to deal with anymore.

Local adoption/rescue agencies (Furkids, Good Mews, etc.) are not at all helpful - they state they only adopt out to interested persons, they do not take cats in. We've tried fliers and calling vets - no success. I literally have no options at this point, and I need some help.

Does anyone on here have the ability to take these two cats, or know of anyone who does?

Does anyone on here have the ability to at least foster them for a while while I continue my search, or know of anyone who can?

Does anyone know of any constructive, useful options that I can try that I may not have thought of so far?

I'm referring to two male, 7.5 year old neutered cats who've been de-clawed (front only) and have had their shots. They are litter trained, and have been inside cats all their lives. They are brothers who I rescued (along with two others I successfully adopted out) back in '99 from under a porch in a townhome community in Laurel, MD.

I'm living in GA, about 20 minutes north of downtown in Sandy Springs, GA. I can travel to deliver them as far as I can logically make it to and from in a weekend. I have cat carriers for both of them and can start the new owners out with a bunch of food and litter.

I just need to find a home for these guys, they've been great and deserve something nice.

If they weren't declawed I could take them. I have a friend with a dairy farm who takes in healthy neutred strays for his dairy farm..(They keep the field mice under control)... They are treated like pets and very. very well fed :)

I will however keep a lookout...

Have you tried putting a notice up on craigslist? http://atlanta.craigslist.org/pet/

Just remember to ALWAYS ask for an adoption fee, even if it's $20 or $30. Free is discouraged for a number of reasons- you can read the notice on craigslist about it.

Good Mews, Fur Kids, etc. are all full. We had seven cats (our stray had six kittens) and I had no luck adopting them out, until we coerced a fellow WERA racer into taking two of them. Life is so much easier with just five. ;) I am currently looking for a home for an FIV positive stray, and that's even tougher.

If you want, I will forward your notice to some friends who may be interested.

Good luck finding them a home!

I already have 4 adopted cats - wish I could take more. :(

Lawn Dart Difficult. With a big D.

I'll send a note to our rescue organization. We only foster and find homes for Pugs, but someone may have a relationship with a rescue organization down your way...

Yes, we did, way back in November, and the response was downright scary. Half the people sent angry, un-focused e-mails at me chastizing my very existence. How dare I try to dispose of my cats, why can't I suck it up and just endure the allergies, go to a doctor, get drugs, vaccum more often, blah blah blah. No concern if I'd already tried allergy drugs or not, gone thru 3 allergy/immunology specialists or not, developed asthma or not and drop $175/month on Allegra and Advair or not.

The other half wanted the cats right away if they were free. I had been warned by a family friend who works at Tails of Hope in MD. She told me that animal testing labs often use Craig's list and other low-buck advertising outlets to secure new test subjects. I assume that's who was wanting the cats fast and free.

So Craig's list was a bust. I can't adequately pre-qualify people I don't know anyway, I was hoping to find an adoption outfit that could do that for me. No such luck.

I did get a response, today finally, from Gwinnett County Animal Control. It's not a pleasant option, but it's my only option right now.

Aren't there any humane societies within a reasonable distance near you? The ones here in Pa will not ask questions and will take all animals. They still may be euthanized but at least they will have a chance to be adopted.

Definately ask for at least a small amount for shots or something.
Free will get them "adopted" sick freaks, and maybe Korean resturants....

The only Humane Society to get back in contact with us was the one in Gwinnett County, and they do not take the cats. You keep them at your home, they market them, and if they are adopted, you can deliver them. This does not help my cause (anymore), although we sent them a description and digi pics back in November, anyway. We've heard nothing since, hence our apprehension over the coming move date.
