I'm getting TZ250 1993.. I'm very excited. I sold my R6 to get the bike. I think I can handle it I'm a big boy.

Anyway, I want to treat the old girl right with FINE WINE Castrol A747. But were do I get this stuff... Also what's a good Leaded Fuel to use too ? I was going to use ELF or Power Mist.. Which ever comes in a 25 Gallon Container.

ALSO, Bill Cole, how much fuel do you use at at track event in Gallons please. If I know what one day is then I can figure out a weekend.

I got my 747 thru my local Yamashop, JT2 in Leesburg,Va. They in turn got it from Tucker Rocky, Parts Unlimited or some other main line distributor. Your local shop should be able to do the same. If you are anywhere close to Blackmans, I'd say buddy up with them and maybe get Mr. Bill Himmelsbach to go over your bike.
I use Sunoco Maximal (Red-116 octane) because we run pretty high compression.
If your bike is pretty stock, run VP C-12, good quality fuel about $6 gal. Leaded, 108 octane I believe, non oxygenated.
If you need to go higher octane or need oxygenated fuel try Nutec GP-2 or VP MR8. Both are very similar specification wise, expect to pay $8-$10 gal. Of the two, I'd say try the Nutec. They are doing a much better job representing the product at the track, namely Summit and VIR. I have yet to see any VP rep at the track. We will be going to Nutec GP-2 when our Sunoco runs out.
Unless you have someone giving you product at Free.99 I'd say don't stray too far from what most of the GP guys are running otherwise you'll make it difficult on yourself when you ask for set up help and such.
FYI we run 30:1 mix ratio as per the Yamamanual.
Will we be seeing you at VIR over the next two weekends? Feel free to stop by and say hi. I'm the black, gold and orange Y2k TZ expert#925.
Good luck!

Lee, Welcome to the world of 2 strokes. I have been running sunoco standard purple in the TZ. I would recommend that you run VP C-12. What is important is that you get a fuel and stick with it. Jetting is effected differantly by differant fuels.

You can get A-747 from any dealer. It is in the lockheart phillips book. Good price is $20 a liter a great price is $16. 30:1

If I were you I would bring 15 gallons for a 2 day event. This is not like the R-6 where you want to put 250 miles on it in a weekend. You want to do Quality not Quantity. I burn a gallon a session in the 125. I would say that a 250 would burn 6-7 gallons in 4 sessions. Ask Moxey what he has gone through.

Good luck and I also recommend that you get the bike checked out to ensure that all is OK....

This is where I get my oil, and I've loved the service. Next time I need tires, I'm going to go there as well. Enjoy the new bike!

Just curious....
Why would you want to buy tires from those guys?
They don't have slicks (or at least I didn't see any on their site) and their race D.O.T.s' aren't any cheaper than what I can buy at the track - and that's before they tack on shipping and their "handling charge".

Doesn't seem to be a particularly good deal to me........

Bill-
OH MY GOD !
Spend this past weekend on the 1993 TZ250 at VIR South Course !! WOW WOW WOW
I thought my R6 handled, I thought the Aprilia 250 handled. This thing is nuts !

I would go into a turn like a 4 storke and whale her in and she would turn too fast and I would have to correct... Took me the whole day to get use to that.. THEN, I was Wheeling out of the Tree turn.. NO WAY !
And Wheeling down a couple hills.. WOW ! And this was not jetted right either.

OH MY !

On the Second day I got my sh!t together, had to change sprockets, and then Jetting to get it a little Leaner... SWEET !

AS for the Fuel I stopped at VP in Delware, and got 15 gallons of C12 and then A747.. Not that hard to mix the fuel at all if you have the Accumix...

Had a great time wish you where there to help me... LOL !

We are a shop in Greenwood Lake , NY (Orange County) that stocks the entire Castrol line of oils including A747.

This oil retails for $21.95 per liter at our store, but we offer racer pricing at $18 per liter + shipping (NY residents + tax)

If anyone's local, swing by....we always have a case or two in stock.

Lee, best of luck on your TZ.
