Question for all the TZ250 riders. What kind of clutch plates do you use? Aftermarket or OEM? And where is the best place to order them. Thanks guys.

I have run the stock plates with no problems in my '93,'94 and Y2K. We replace a plate or two every three to four weekends depending on how many starts we do. If you are still using the clutch to upshift you will wear plates faster in which case you may consider learning to speed shift or buy a quick shifter. I happen to have a JFR for sale with very little use. It's a nice unit but my Y2K came with a KLS so I don't need the JFR.
Can't say I've heard anything one way or the other about the Barnett product.

Hope this helps,

I've heard some bad comments about the Barnett plates not being as good as the OEM Yamaha stuff on the 125s. I believe the quote was "junk". But, I have no personal experience. On this advice, I've avoided Barnett. Don't think they're any cheaper so I don't see the advantage in using them.

Jack you are correct. They are junk and glaze very quickly. Yamaha is the only way to fly. I have had good results with scuffing the metals with a scotchbrite pad one a weekend. I normally get a season out of a clutch.

I think the trick with the Barnett plates is to use the Yamaha Yellow/outside ones with the Barnetts for inners.

Works for me on my 250. With the Barnetts I can usually get another weekend or so out of the clutch pack before everything starts sliding.......
