No Problem Raceway 4/6-7
Well I went to the Bayou, and I’m still worn out from the trip. Jason Clay and Dave Deggendorf answered my post for a travel partner for this weekend. They brought their stuff to my house the weekend before and we loaded up my trailer with the bikes and necessities. Then they drove in from Hickory Friday, hitched up Jason’s turbo-diesel truck and away we went. The trip was pretty uneventful. Jason drove to just the other side of Atlanta and I took over. I got through Mobile and we needed fuel and I was about to fall asleep at the wheel so I turned the driving duties over to Dave. We got to the track about an hour before the gate opened and I actually got a little nap. We parked the trailer and set-up ‘camp’. Our spot overlooked the endurance hot-pit and looked at the last turn of the track.
I got through tech and went out for practice. I was pretty tired and didn’t really get quality practice that morning. I nearly ran off the track 3 times in one lap in the second round of practice so I pulled in and called it a day. I took another nap and then helped a friend’s endurance team on pit stops during the endurance race. I don’t know how Jason managed to ride endurance for his team. I was almost incoherent in my own thoughts that afternoon.
The track had a sports bar that was serving crawfish and jambalaya, so that was my dinner. I plugged in the laptop and started watching a movie. I don’t remember the ending. I woke the next morning to the sound of Jason’s truck backing up to the trailer. After practice I changed to fresh tires and sat in on the chapel service.
I started third row center for the 600 Superstock Expert race. I actually got a good start but the lead group pulled away and one by one I started getting passed. I finished 11th or 12th, so no Suzuki money for me. I felt and rode much better in the 600 Superbike race. I started on the next to the last row and moved up to about 7th. As soon as I came in from post race we began packing, since Jason and Dave’s race was just before mine. Dave drove to the north side of Mobile, then I took over through Atlanta and Jason finished the drive. We got back to my house about 6 am.
It was a whirlwind trip that I’m still exhausted from…
Now Melissa and I are off to CMP next weekend.
