Wow, what a fast track. My first time around was intimidating. I didn’t know what line to use around there. By the end of the day, I started to see one that worked for me. I got my lap time down to 1:25.
Middleweight Sportsman race:
I was grided in row 2 E. I got a great start again and jumped into second place. I was holding my own till lap 2. I started to feel the rear wheel hop around and I almost low-sided going threw turn 5. That’s when I fell right into to 7th place. When I started to push to catch up, the rear just hoped around even more. So I just cruised around and tried not to lose any more ground. I just made it across the finish line when Steve Pennington (#794) came flying by me like I was standing still. http://www.wera.com/ubb/eek.gif My best recorded lap time was 1:24.51. Not all laps were timed.
It turned out my rear shock was going out on me. Donnie Unger from ducpond.com lent me a spare Showa shock so I could continue racing. http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. He has 10 regional CCS championship and is one hell of a nice guy. Donnie was in first place during the Middleweight Sportsman race and won by a mile. Good thing I didn’t try to catch him cus it would have been in vain. He rides a 1990 Ducati 750 sport. Donnie and his bike are vary vary fast.
Lightweight SupersSport race:
I was grided in row 13 G. This was an exiting race for me. I got a great start and jumped into second place again. http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif This time I kept it for 6 laps. A young lady came around me riding an Aprilia 250 on the outside of turn 3. I was able to catch her on the last lap going into turn 7. She had the inside line so I drifted wide to get a better drive coming out onto the short straight leading to the fast turn 8/9. Well, I did. I got a great drive and started to pull on her hard but my rear tire broke loose and I almost high-sided into the woods. I ran up onto the rumble strip and was able to get back on track and finish third. Oh well, that’s racing. http://www.wera.com/ubb/wink.gif
Lightweight Superbike race:
This race was a total disaster. It was a two-wave race. The Southeast region has a different way of starting their races. http://www.wera.com/ubb/mad.gif After the first wave takes off, they hold the number one plate sideways and them bring the green flag up then down. Well this just screwed me up and I stalled my bike. I restarted my bike and took off and was able to make mid pack by turn three. Lots of riders don’t carry their speed into turn one. On a bike like mind, you can just roll off the throttle and drop it in.
There were lots of get-offs in this one. By mid race the ambulance came onto the track. And I do mean ON THE TRACK. http://www.wera.com/ubb/mad.gif I had never seen an ambulance on a track during a race. As I was going into turn 4, there it was, right in the middle of the track. http://www.wera.com/ubb/eek.gif This caused two racers to run off the track. One of them made it back on and we continued to race. He (#91) got a good drive coming onto the front straight. I drafted him down the front straight and was getting ready to try and take him in turn one when the red flag come out. Sh@t!!. http://www.wera.com/ubb/mad.gif Got 5th place.
What the hell was that the ambulance doing on the track?!!. If the rider was that badly hurt, why didn’t they red flag the race and then let the ambulance go onto the track? I saw this happen twice during the weekend.
In all, I had a great time visiting Roebling Road and meeting the southeastern region CCS racers. Can’t wait to go back. http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.wera.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
