Boy, that pretty much ends my season with respect to the GNF. No way I can get 5 races in (with one double pointer) to max out on the 6 races for the year. They should allow two double pointers to count. Maybe the August VIR being an extra double-pointer that is counted in the points standings.

As taken from the WERA Vintage news bulletin:
VIR - SEPTEMBER 22-23 CANCELLED FOR VINTAGE EVENTS: WERA has announced that the September 22-23 date at VIR has been turned into a National weekend because of the National being cancelled at Rausch Creek. There will be a 6 hour Endurance event run on Saturday and then the National and Sprint races run on Sunday. Because of this, the Mid-Atlantic Series will only have three events with the last event being at the VIR event on August 18-19th. We will still have a banquet at the August 18th event at which the Series trophies and trophies for the days events will be handed out. This will be a DOUBLE point event and will also be the last event for the Formula RD Series.

that really blows. I know every one will be upset about this one. Team Obsolete was planning on making this event as well as most everyone else I have been talking it up to. I think thay should just run the endurance races at night or something and not squeeze the vintage guys... they already had one national there... why not go somewhere else, god knows the people who race nationals have plenty of bucks and determination to travel to some other location on short notice http://www.wera.com/ubb/tongue.gif

I'm sure the vintage turnout would have been great since it is located within a reasonable distance for most of the racers from various regions. Also the fact that VIR is the best venue this side of the Rockies (from what I've heard) would have been more than enough to lure racers from all over regardless of which organization they race with. I think this was a great opportunity to show what WERA Vintage has to offer and could've enticed more people to join. But I guess that really doesn't matter. We'll always be the "other" vintage roadracing organization.
BTW - how was Mid-Ohio?

I was kind of surprised myself, Evelyne faxed Lynne about running the Vintage races on Friday but I guess they felt that wouldn't work.
Sorry about all of this - it's definitely not how we wanted things to work out for this event.

Well, it comes as no surprise that we were booted from VIR when the national endurance guys needed a track. It's pretty evident that vintage is low on the ladder of importance. Just look at the BBS, the 2-stroke GP BBS used to be below vintage but has now been moved above us in the line-up. http://www.wera.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'm grateful that we at least still have our races on Saturdays though. We do... don't we?

Well, my first choice was to have Vintage on Saturday and make the Endurance a 4 hour. That ran into problems because then we'd have to run all of the Vintage stuff either before or after (most likely after since the Endurance is finite in length and the sprints are not, SOP for sprints and endurance on the same day) and it would have all of them right in a row which would force a lot of back to back rides - not something that would make for a good day of racing. So instead we figured we'd do the Vintage stuff Friday and make a day of it interspersed with practice session for the other bikes. This way nothing would be back to back, that idea however was shot down...

Yea. Friday would not have been a good day. I'm sure it would have been like last years' Friday vintage meet at VIR where only 3 people were able to show up. Too many of us poor old farts wouldn't be able to get out of work or get release passes out of the nursing home.
Oh, BTW. We vintage folk appreciated getting two full rounds of practice at Road Atlanta a few weeks ago. Thanx.

Particularly since the TD-3 bogged and stopped at turn one when it couldn't make it up the hill for the first practice session.

Friday would not have been good. Lynne Breckon contacted me regarding the Friday date option that was offered by WERA. I told her that I would not schedule the last MID ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP event on a Friday. Our numbers on last years friday date were dismal. It would not be fair to our riders who could not attend a friday date, and the Sponsors of the Series. I was hopeing that something could be worked out with the endurance program on Saturday, but I have been told that could not be done safely. We were left with no option but to end the Mid Atlantic on 8/18, one event short this year. Mark Mitchell Cyclephoto@aol.

I understand not doing it on Friday.

No Problem. We Vintage racers need to understand that without WERA we would not racing the 20+ events available to us. We need to work togrther for the benefit of the whole sport. Mark Mitchell

Thanks for asking Eric. The BMW and I are mending just fine, it's getting new paint and parts, and I'm getting poorer.
You will not see me at Putnam. I've never raced there, but I hear it's a nice track. We'll be at VIR on the 18th for the Mid Atlantic finals. I hope to see you there. I just might make it to Talladega on the 25th.

Mark, I'm going to VIR this friday to talk to Vicky about the Awards banquet, I'll see what we need to do to take care of your band.
I want you to play the National Anthem on the 18th, please !!!

Why bother? None of us know how to type.
Glad you're in touch now since I've been forgetting to ask you this everytime I see you at the track. I have a site and am in desperate need of some racing/trackside photos. Would you know of anybody who might have some? I have a few pages of bikes but could always use more... even if they're of beemers. http://www.wera.com/ubb/smile.gif (you know it's a joke since I drive a Bimmer) http://www.angelfire.com/biz4/dieselpower

Yo, Kenneth, don't give up.
The Summit Point story was written by Steve-0 in Florida. He uses the WERA results sheets and notes that I supplied him regarding racing action that I see. Since I was in the V3 race behind you, I was not able to write my observations of the V5 race.
None of the Vintage Series races are covered by a professional writer, we do good if we can mention the "highlights" of the days racing. For a long time, until Steve-O and other people started to help, we had only the days race results written up. So if anyone can help us (and themselves) with notes of their races if would be a great help. Deliver your notes to the Vintage race director for that track.
We certainly don't have a problem with you. We just don't know you. It looks like you've got the 550 hot rodded up, and as in all things, the more you participate with us, and "run up front" the more you'll get noticed. Hope to see ya at VIR and the Mid Atlantic Finals, in which you are in 5th place as a result of your win at Summit. Mark Mitchell

Kenneth, in the July 25th issue of Cycle News, pages 47&48 is Steve-O's Summit Point story. He writes, "Kenneth George, on the MTA-sponsored Suzuki, won the Vintage 5 battle over Stuart Lamont and Morrow".
See ya at VIR. Mark Mitchell

Kenneth, our coverage of vintage racing is 100% improved over what it was 2 years ago. In '99, we didn't even get coverage for the gnf!!!(see aaron stevenson) Steve O and Mark Mitchell are only human and have everyones best interests at heart. Congrats on your win, I think that makes us tied in mid-a points. I promise to bring the rz to vir...

sorry guys didnt mean to bitch about the coverage. i guess i had flash backs of when i won three races at rockingham in the mid eights and the cyclenews covage headline for the artical were kurt hall only double winner of the weekend. seems i just never seemed to get noticed back then and got a little upset at the lack of coverage this time .im not faulting anybody . dont take it to harshly. just speaking my mind now .gee this forum stuffs great would have had to write a letter then and mail it. to much trouble. so dont think of me to badly for speaking up . mark and mark and every one else . try not to suck the stickers off the 550 when u go bye i hear the rzs a rocket . thanks again KGEORGE
