Well, I guarantee you can crash the snot out of the bike and still make the next race. :) I found I didnt hardly ever crash, so the spares kept building up. I even found some more stuff after I had taken the pics.
I've got a small two car garage in a garden home - the wife parks in half and this bike, spares, two other bikes, and riding mower fits in the other half. Its "effeciently" packed in there.

My scenario as well, kids and wife stuff on one side, workbench and bikes on the other....

I've had a few people ask about hp numbers.
I dont have current numbers. My best estimate would be between 70 and 75hp. I had it dyno'd at about 80hp but with a different set of cams and on race gas. Currently its jetted for pump gas and starts right up with no problems and runs flawlessly. I've got jetting notes and can show you what to do to jet for race gas based on my experience.

The bike and flatslides dont work well until the bike is warm. The procedure is 4 or 5 squits of the throttle, start, dont touch the throttle, let warm up, ride. Restart, ride. I've had no issues with fouling plugs or jetting or restarting, etc. I jet and run it all year from 40deg to 100deg. Its not finicky. Its got a digital temp gauge and does not overheat. It runs about 200-210 all the time. I'm running a thermostat and a huge ZX7 radiator.

If you wanna buy the bike and race at TGPR or Barber, I'll join you for the day in the pit and give ya a hand.

I've got lots of notes (gearing, jetting, suspension, etc).

Yes - it has the stock starter and stock battery but running total loss. 18" rear wheel - I always have run Bridgestone slicks and rains and their 18" stuff is great so I never felt like I needed or wanted to go 17".

One of the most well maintained Fizzers ever. Hate you're letting her go Ryan. :(

If I didn't have two already I'd take her.

Ryan Nelson
03-17-2009, 04:14 PM
Well - I haven't let her go yet :)
I'm getting closer to just keeping her as each day passes - I honestly thought at $2400 this thing would sell fast. I stopped calculating how much $ I have in her, but its sick. I'm only doing 2 or 3 trackdays a year so I hated to let the little fizzer waste away. Id like to see someone race the thing - it's a competitive bike in the D Superbike and V6LW.

I had a 400 back about 2000. Tried to sell it and all the spares for $2800...No dice...I ended up selling the bike, couple crash spares, and a couple sets of scuffs and parting the rest. I made $4400 when I was done....

Part the parts and save minimal for the bike....You will come out much nicer...

I fixed it for you Ryan.

I fixed it for you Ryan.

Ha! I should race it but dualsport has caught my ADD attention. This bike is fast and reliable - it just needs someone to ride it more than a couple of times a year. It sat about 2 months on a battery tender (longest its ever been without starting) - the bike started right up.
Race kit CDI box
Trick adjustable ignition advance (change advance w/o pulling and case covers, etc)
Keihin Flatslide carbs - tuned very well.
Brembo master cylinder witH CRG lever

Somehow I knew that was going to be the response.

More than I need, it would spill over into the wife's side of the garage LOL:D

Very tempting.

I'm going to be at barber in a few weeks with nesba. We'll see if you still have it by then.

Reading up on Ryan's racing successes with that bike is what lead me to buy one. Bump for a great bike.

it's weird, but the longer you own an fzr400 the more you seem to stockpile parts.

i can't tell you how many parts i bought "just in case" or because "the price was right."

good luck with the sale. if you have the time, i agree parting it out your spares would help a lot.

when i sold my 400, i was too damn busy with work to part out my spares. i sold it in 2005 and left one of my spare stablizers on the bulletin board at loudon last year. i was handing out calipers one weekend, stock rearsets another.

My first GNF in 05 with my 400 I had a problem with a coil. I now have 6 sets of coils. I have not needed one since 2005. Its a sickness! :)

Good luck with the sale Ryan.

Yep - I have at least one or two of everything that either broke over the years or might break or the price was just too right.

It is sad and I miss you too, Dave. :)

For some reason I see myself getting another 400 one day and getting back out there. Its kinda like that ugly girlfriend everyone kinda makes fun of you for, but the sex is absolutely awesome so you keep coming back time and time again.

I'll be cruising around a few trackdays on a 2000 gsxr600 for a couple of years while I get some other things in life accomplished. My wife still has her trackbike so we'll still see the track. The dualsport world has my attention now and I'm loving that.
I will miss the sound of those FCR flatslides though.

I'll be at the WERA Barber round to hang out and drink beer after the races if anything.

You'll have another, believe me. I planned to sell my remaining two and quit the Fizzer biz. Instead, I bought another and I'm keeping the other two. I think I know how smokers feel trying to quit. Those little bikes seem to get in your blood and refuse to leave.

I may bring the newest addition to the next FBF day Ryan...wanna make a few laps for S&G?
